Box Score (New/Sortable Format) 2 CANTON, Ohio (Sept. 4, 2015) – The Edinboro University volleyball team opened up the season with a pair wins on the first day of the two-day Hall of Fame City Challenge, hosted by Malone. The Fighting Scots posted a 3-0 victory over Concord in the first match of the day, before beating Urbana, 3-0, later in the day.
Here's a wrapup of the two matches:
EDINBORO DEF. CONCORD 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-19)The Fighting Scots defeated Concord in their 2015 debut match by scores (25-13, 25-17, 25-19). Sophomore
Challen Litwiler led the attack with 11 kills, falling one short of tying a career-high. Junior
Victoria Severo, a transfer from Charleston(WV) playing in her first match for the Scots, contributed eight kills and posted a .533 hitting percentage, while
Jen Gruber had 7 kills. Litwiler also led the Fighting Scots with 11 digs.
Sydney Trathen had 31 assists. Edinboro hit a solid .340 for the match.
EDINBORO DEF. URBANA 3-0 (27-25, 25-16, 25-23)Urbana gave the the Fighting Scots a much stiffer match than the first of the day, but the Edinboro still prevailed in three games. Once again Litwiler led the way offensively, accounting for 12 kills and had a pair of service aces. Severo added 7 kills. Trathen recorded 27 assists and had 11 digs. The latter matched
Marah Maycock's total for the team high. Freshman
Morgyn Sharp had two block solos.
The Fighting Scots are right back in action on Saturday, as they conclude the Hall of Fame City Challenge. The Scots start the day with a 9 a.m. matchup against Malone before wrapping up the trip in a 2 p.m. showdown with Northwest Missouri State.
