The Game Story
  • Edinboro (3-6, 1-4 PSAC West) returns from a long break on Friday, December 30 when they host PSAC West-foe California (Pa.) (2-9, 0-5 PSAC West) at 7:30 p.m. in McComb Fieldhouse.
  • The Fighting Scots last played on December 10, snapping a six-game losing streak with an 85-81 PSAC crossover win over Cheyney. The losing streak was the longest since 1985-86.
  • Edinboro has won its last three contests against Cal. Last season, the Fighting Scots completed their first season sweep of the Vulcans since 2004-05.
  • Senior guard Sheldon Brogdon scored a game-high 30 points against Cheyney in his first start of the season, connecting on seven 3-pointers. It marked his second career 30-point game after dropping in 31 points against Daemen on November 23.
  • Redshirt junior forward Jon Girvin, a defensive end on the football team who joined head coach Pat Cleary's squad a week prior to the game, came off the bench to grab a game-high 11 rebounds with eight points against Cheyney in just his second career game.
  • Redshirt junior guard Jaymon Mason had 14 points with six assists, giving him 1,129 career points, good for 26th place in career scoring at Edinboro. He is 49 points away from reaching the top 20.
  • Jaymon Mason is tied with Pitt-Johnstown's AJ Leahey for fourth in the PSAC in scoring at 21.7 ppg.
  • Senior forward Mikael Anderson had 17 points against Cheyney, marking his fourth straight game scoring in double digits. He is averaging 16.8 ppg. and 6.5 rpg. in his last four games.
  • California (Pa.), who was picked to finish ninth in the PSAC West preseason poll, defeated Carlow, 102-63, on December 17 to snap a seven-game losing streak. This stretch included all five of their PSAC defeats.
  • The Vulcans are led this year by new head coach Kent McBride, who replaces longtime head coach Bill Brown. McBride comes to Cal following a successful five-year run leading Concord. That was capped off with a 2016 MEC championship.

  • Marked Edinboro's first season sweep of Cal (Pa.) since 2004-05.
  • Game was tied at 32 with 1:27 left in the first half before a leak in the roof caused the game to be delayed 25 minutes. Both teams went to the locker room during the delay. When play resumed, they played the remainder of the first half, took a one-minute break, then played the second half.
  • Jaymon Mason scored a game-high 28 points with seven assists. He shot 11-for-16 from the floor and 2-for-2 on 3-point attempts.
  • Henri Wade-Chatman finished with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Tommy Scales collected nine points with ten boards.

  • Six Vulcans scored in double figures, with Jay Tucker (19 pts., 12 reb.) and Tony Richardson (11 pts., 12 reb.) posting double-doubles. Tucker finished tied with Luka Andjusic for a game-high 19 points.
  • California (Pa.) held a 36-7 lead in points off turnovers, forcing Carlow into 21 turnovers. They also held a 48-28 advantage in points in the paint and a 42-17 lead in points off the bench.

Edinboro: Pat Cleary, Edinboro '99 (42-46, 4th Year)
  • Pat Cleary was officially introduced as Edinboro's tenth head coach on March 26, 2013 after head coach Greg Walcavich announced his retirement. Cleary served as Walcavich's assistant coach for 14 years.
  • Cleary's teams have improved each year since his appointment, with his 2015-16 team earning the third seed in the PSAC West Tournament with a 15-11 overall record and 14-8 league mark.
  • He made the playoffs for the first time in 2014-15 with a 14-13 record, a four-game improvement over his first year, after being chosen to finish eighth in the PSAC West preseason poll. His first Boro squad finished 10-16 in 2013-14.
 
California (Pa.): Kent McBride, Concord '06 (3-8, 1st Year; Career: 86-71, 6th year)
  • Kent McBride is in his first year as California (Pa.)'s head coach following a five-year head coaching stint at Concord, where he compiled an 83-63 record.
  • McBride led the Mountain Lions to a MEC championship and their second-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 2016. It was Concord's first league title since 1997.
  • The former Concord point guard served as an assistant coach for West Virginia Wesleyan and Glenville State before returning to the Mountain Lions.

Jaymon Mason (G, R-Jr.)
  • Posted his first career back-to-back 30-point performance with 30 points against West Chester on December 4 and 37 markers against Notre Dame (Ohio) on December 7. Has seven career 30-point games.
  • Tied with Pitt-Johnstown's AJ Leahey for fourth in the PSAC with 21.7 ppg. Eighth in conference with .450 3-point field goal percentage (27-for-60).
  • Became the 28th Fighting Scot to reach the 1,000 career-point milestone at Millersville on November 19.
  • Was the third-fastest to react the 1,000-point mark, doing so in 55 games. Tyrone Mason, Jaymon's father, and Kenny Tate both reached the mark in 51 games.
  • Was named to the Division II Bulletin All-American preseason team after earning All-American honorable mention accolades last season. The 2015 PSAC West Freshman of the Year was selected to the PSAC West preseason team after being named to the NABC first team and All-PSAC West first team in 2015-16.

  • Scored 17 points against Cheyney on December 10 following a career-high, 20-point performance at Notre Dame (Ohio) on December 7.
  • Recorded his first career double-double against West Chester on December 4 with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
