ERIE, Pa. (March 19, 2016) – The Edinboro University men's tennis team opened its PSAC season on Saturday with an 8-1 win over Kutztown at Westwood Racquet Club. The Fighting Scots, who returned to the court after an eight-day break following their spring break trip in Hilton Head, S.C., improved to 11-2 and 1-0 in PSAC play. The Golden Bears dropped to 0-8 overall and 0-2 in the PSAC.

Edinboro posted three shutout wins against the Golden Bears, taking five of six singles matches and sweeping the doubles competition. Vitor Albanese continued his impressive season, running his singles record to 19-2 with a 6-1 and 6-0 win over Gabriel Nogara Souza. Daniel Fernandez (13-2), Mateus Santos (13-4) and Mauricio Santos (13-6) each earned their 13^th singles season victory, second-highest on the team, with wins over David Nunez Contreras, Rich Lichtenwalner and Filip Lagerqvist, respectively. Mauricio Santos shutout Lagerqvist, 6-0, in both sets. Kevin Mboko accounted for the Boro's fifth singles win, blanking Neal Kerschner with a pair of 6-0 wins. Kutztown's lone victory came when Edinboro's Camilo Moncayo retired his match to Joan Oliver Perez following a 6-2 win in the first set.

The tandem of Fernandez and Mateus Santos earned their team-high 12^th doubles victory, downing Lagerqvist and Lichtenwalner by an 8-2 score. Mboko and Mauricio Santos ran their record to 9-2 following an 8-0 shutout win over Contreras and Kerschner. The closest match of the day was Albanese/Moncayo's 8-4 victory against Souza and Perez.

The Scots are back in action tomorrow, continuing their PSAC season hosting Bloomsburg at 2:00 p.m.
