WHEELING, W.V. (March 25, 2016) – Edinboro University men's tennis registered several key wins at West Liberty on Friday to defeat the Atlantic Region's second-ranked team by a 5-4 decision. The Fighting Scots avenged a 5-4 loss last season to the Hilltoppers as the Atlantic Region's fifth-ranked team in the latest Oracle/ITA Division II Poll improved to 13-2. The Hilltoppers, ranked second in that same poll, fell to 8-3.
 
Sophomore Vitor Albanese was on the winning end of two vital victories for the Scots. Ranked second in the Atlantic Region in singles, Albanese used a pair of 6-4 sets to defeat top-ranked Baptiste Perrin, avenging his defeat to Perrin in the final round of singles at the ITA/USTA Atlantic Region Championships on September 27. Albanese then teamed up with freshman Camilo Moncayo for another win over a top-ranked opponent, downing Andrew Ponder and Santiago Gutierrez, 8-6. Ponder and Gutierrez were ranked first in the Atlantic Region in doubles by Oracle/ITA.
 
The Fighting Scots finished with two more singles wins and one more doubles win to secure the victory. Mateus Santos defeated Martin Moncayo, 6-4 and 6-2, while Kevin Mboko downed Pablo Cimorra, 6-1 and 7-5. The tandem of Mboko and Mauricio Santos went on the defeat Matt Tully and Cimorra by a 9-8 score.
 
Edinboro continues its season on Saturday when they travel to face Davis & Elkins at 10:00 a.m.
