HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (March 7, 2016) – The Edinboro University men's tennis team suffered defeat for the first time this season Monday, falling to Chowan by a 6-3 decision. The Fighting Scots dropped to 8-1 on the year while the Hawks improved to 5-5.

The Hawks took four of the six singles matches, but the Fighting Scots did not make it easy for them. Two of Chowan's victories included a set tiebreaker, while another was determined in three sets. Vitor Albanese suffered just his second loss of the year to Farid Hajizada, 6-3 and 7-5, to drop to 15-2 on the year. Camilo Moncayo, who joined the Scots before the start of the spring season, dropped his first match of the season to Mateusz Izycki, 7-6 and 6-1. Thomas McCoy challenged Louis Proulx to three sets. He won the first set, 6-0, but lost in the second set, 6-1, and was edged in the final set, 10-8. Mauricio Santos gave Edinboro their first singles win, defeating Rafael Goncalves, 7-5 and 6-4, while Daniel Fernandez supplied the Scots' second win against Mariano Yeh, 6-2 and 6-1. Mateus Santos dropped his match to Adi Kaliakperov, 6-1 and 6-4.

Albanese and Moncayo kept their undefeated doubles mark going, improving to 5-0 with an 8-6 win over Hajizada and Kaliakperov. Fernandez and Mateus Santos battled closely with Izycki and Yeh, but fell by a 9-7 decision. Mauricio Santos and Kevin Mboko suffered a similar fate to Goncalves and Proulx.

Edinboro competes again on Tuesday with a match against Belmont Abbey, beginning at 8:00 p.m.
