HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (March 8, 2016) – The Edinboro University men's tennis team returned to action Tuesday morning, less than 24 hours after their Monday match against Chowan, with a 7-2 win over Belmont Abbey. The Fighting Scots proceeded to a 9-1 record while the Crusaders fell to 5-10. The match marked Edinboro's second of its four-match spring break trip and took place at the Van Der Meer Tennis Academy.
Edinboro swept the doubles competition and took four of the six singles matches to pull out the win.
Vitor Albanese brought his singles record to 15-2 with a 6-3 and 6-4 win over Juan Baez.
Daniel Fernandez upped his mark to 11-1 by defeating Michael Rapsik, 6-1 and 6-0, while
Mateus Santos notched his tenth win of the year (10-4), beating Young-Jin Kang by 6-4 and 6-0 decisions.
Thomas McCoy moved to 9-3 with a win over Laine Harrett by matching 6-2 scores.
Albanese and
Camilo Moncayo remained undefeated after their 9-7 doubles win over Baez and James Delaney to bring their record to 7-0. Fernandez and
Mateus Santos improved to 10-4 on the year with an 8-6 win over Grant Goldin and Kang, while
Mauricio Santos and
Kevin Mboko ran their record to 6-1, defating Tomas Pardo and Rapsik, 8-4.
The Fighting Scots are back in action on Wednesday with a morning match against Northwood, starting at 8:30 a.m.
