HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (March 9, 2016) – While the Edinboro University men's tennis team's 6-3 win over Northwood on Wednesday was good news within itself, it also was an historic achievement for the Fighting Scots. The win not only bolstered the Boro's record to 10-1, but it marked the program's first win over a nationally-ranked program since its revival in 2010. The Timberwolves, who were ranked 47
th nationally by the ITA, dropped to 1-4. The match marked Edinboro's third of their four-match spring break trip in Hilton Head Island and took place at Hilton Head High School.
The Scots took four singles matches and a pair of doubles matches in the victory.
Vitor Albanese defeated Sebastian Eguez with 6-4 and 6-3 scores to improve to 17-2 on the year.
Daniel Fernandez took victory over Lorenz Bialkowski with 6-2 and 6-1 scores as he climbed to 12-1.
Mauricio Santos beat Konstantin Zhukov, 6-4 and 6-3, to move to 12-5, while
Mateus Santos downed Daniel Haas, 6-0 and 6-4, to earn an 11-4 mark in singles matches. In the doubles competition, Fernandez and
Mateus Santos outplayed Zhukov and Bialkowski to a 9-7 win to improve to 11-4 as
Mauricio Santos and
Kevin Mboko took care of Haas and Reinauer by an 8-6 score as the tandem earned a 7-1 mark.
The Fighting Scots will take a break from action on Thursday after three straight days of dual matches before they finish out their trip against George Mason on Friday at 8:00 a.m.
