BLOOMSBURG, Pa. (April 29, 2016) – The top-seeded Edinboro men's tennis team's quest for a PSAC three-peat was halfway completed at the PSAC Tournament on Friday, as the Fighting Scots blanked fourth-seeded West Chester, 5-0, in the conference semifinals to cruise to their fourth straight PSAC championship appearance. Bloomsburg University is the host of the conference tournament, with matches taking place at the Burt Reese Tennis Center.
Head coach
Lee Underwood's team is set to play the winner of the semifinals match between second-seeded Mercyhurst and third-seeded Bloomsburg (NOTE: that match was in a rain delay at the time of release, with the Lakers holding a 3-1 lead). The Fighting Scots, who shut out West Chester earlier in the year, 9-0, stretched their winningest season in school history to 21 wins with a 21-3 record. The Golden Rams dropped to 5-15.
Mboko and
Mauricio Santos grabbed Edinboro's first win of the day in an 8-6 decision over Ryan Keffer and Tony Deimler in the number-three spot. The number-two team of
Daniel Fernandez and
Mateus Santos breezed past Lars Kristiansen and Troy Donato, 8-1, as the duo picked up their team-best 20
th doubles victory for a 20-8 record. Albanese and
Camilo Moncayo clinched the doubles sweep with an 8-6 win in the ones bracket over Charlie Rushing and Lucas von der Heyde.
Albanese took the early singles victory, defeating Charlie Rushing, 6-1 and 6-3, in the number-one slot. Mboko was the 6-0 and 6-3 winner over Keanu Travalino in the sixth position to finalize Edinboro's second straight shutout win over the Golden Rams.
