The Game Story
  • Edinboro (4-9, 2-7 PSAC West) returns home on Wednesday for a PSAC West showdown against local rival Gannon (8-5, 6-3 PSAC West). Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at McComb Fieldhouse. The Fighting Scots, who were picked to finish fifth in the PSAC West preseason poll, look to end a three-game losing streak. The Golden Knights, who were picked to finish fourth in the Western Division, ride in with a three-game winning streak.
  • The Fighting Scots suffered PSAC defeats to Seton Hill, Pitt-Johnstown and, most recently, a 97-84 loss to Bloomsburg on Monday.
  • Head coach Pat Cleary's team played the Huskies to a 38-38 tie at halftime, but fell victim to Bloomsburg's 59 second-half points. Edinboro has allowed at least 40 second-half points in every game this season.
  • Edinboro looks for its third straight win against Gannon after sweeping the Golden Knights last season for the first time since 2010-11. Gannon leads the all-time series, 66-37.
  • The Golden Knights' last three victories all came in overtime. They rallied to beat Pitt-Johnstown on Monday, 105-97, after senior guard Matthew Dogan drilled a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game to overtime tied at 87.
  • Gannon head coach John Reilly looks for his 200th career win Wednesday with the Golden Knights. Reilly is in his 12th season leading Gannon and has 431 career wins in 24 years as a head coach, including 12 seasons at Brescia.
  • Gannon's Matthew Dogan has posted back-to-back 30-point games, scoring a career-high 31 markers against Seton Hill and 30 points versus UPJ. He leads the team with 16.8 ppg. Backcourt mate and junior Zay Jackson, a transfer from Monroe Community College, scored a career-high 29 points Monday. He is second on the team with 16.6 ppg.
  • Redshirt junior guard Jaymon Mason connected for 34 points Monday, including 20 in the first half. He moved into 16th place at Edinboro in career scoring with 1,240 points. It marked his fifth 30-point game this season and ninth of his career. The 6'3" guard tops the PSAC in scoring at 23.5 ppg. and ranks third in 3-point field goal percentage at 45.1 percent (41-for-91).
  • Senior forward Mikael Anderson netted 13 points against Bloomsburg, marking his seventh game in double digits in the last eight contests. Anderson leads the team in rebounding at 5.8 rpg. and ranks second with 13.6 ppg. He is averaging 16.6 ppg. and 6.6 rpg. in the past eight games.
  • Redshirt senior guard Sheldon Brogdon dropped in 13 markers against the Huskies. Brogdon has started the last five games, averaging 15.0 ppg. in that span. He is third on the team in scoring at 11.3 ppg. and has posted a pair of 30-point games.
  • Junior forward Mike Beck has scored in double digits over the last two games after scoring in double figures just once in the first 11 games. Junior forward Maceo Baston collected a team-high nine rebounds off the bench at Bloomsburg after grabbing eight boards off the bench against UPJ.
  • Redshirt junior forward Jon Girvin, who joined the team in early December, has started the last two games, filling in for injured Jack Frank, who is listed as day-to-day. Girvin, who also plays defensive end on the football squad, averages 3.6 ppg. and 4.0 rpg. in five appearances. He averages 12.0 minutes per game.

  • Edinboro outscored Gannon, 47-33, in the second half, with Jaymon Mason scoring 20 of his game-high 29 points in the closing session. Je'Land Head, who did not play in the first half, played all 20 minutes of the closing half, shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from the field on his way to 14 points.
  • The Fighting Scots shot just 28.6 percent (8-for-28) in the first half, but shot 61.5 percent in the second half (16-for-26) for a total of 44.4 percent (24-for-54). They made 8-of-16 3-pointers, including 5-of-6 in the second half. Gannon finished at 46.3 percent (25-of-54), making just 2-of-17 3-pointers.
  • Gannon led in rebounds, 35-30, but the Fighting Scots forced the Golden Knights into 15 turnovers, while they turned the ball over 11 times and just three times in the second half.
  • Mason and Art Cook each collected a team-high eight rebounds, while Henri Wade-Chatman tallied 17 points.
  • Jean Yves Toupane led Gannon with 18 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Kevin Kuteyi had 10 points, with Ian Gardner scoring nine points with eight boards.

  • The game was tied at 38 at halftime, but Bloomsburg shot 61.8 percent (21-for-34) in the second half, making 6-of-9 3-pointers, for 59 points. They finished at 50.7 percent (37-for-73) for the game and 10-for-21 from behind the arc.
  • Edinboro shot 45.5 percent (30-for-66) in for the game, making 11-of-30 3-point attempts.
  • Sheldon Brogdon opened the second half with a go-ahead three for the Fighting Scots. Bloomsburg responded with a 27-12 run, making their first four 3-point attempts of the half. Edinboro cut the lead to as much as four points on four occassions, but were unable to get any closer.
  • The Huskies led, 42-10, in bench points and 40-31 in rebounds, leading to a 21-11 lead in second-chance points. They also held an 18-9 lead in fast-break points.
  • Jaymon Mason finished with a game-high 34 points and eight assists. He shot 11-for-24 from the field, making 4-of-11 3-pointers and 8-of-10 free throws. Mikael Anderson and Brogdon each had 13 points. Maceo Baston grabbed a team-high nine rebounds with four points in 18 minutes off the bench.
  • Mike Beck made 2-of-4 3-pointers on his way to ten points, while finishing with four offensive rebounds.

  • Trailing, 87-84, Matthew Dogan sank a 30-foot 3-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime. Gannon outscored Pitt-Johnstown in the extra session, 18-10. The game marked the Golden Knights' third consecutive overtime game, all wins.
  • UPJ held an 84-78 lead before Gannon staged a comeback rally with eight seconds left.
  • The contest featured 14 lead changes and eight ties. Gannon led the rebounding battle, 40-21, leading to a 24-8 lead in second chance points. They also held a 42-28 scoring edge in the paint.
  • Dogan led Gannon with 30 points, while tallying five rebounds and five assists in 44 minutes. Jackson scored a career-high 29 points with six rebounds, shooting 11-for-11 from the free throw line. Evan Phoenix had 20 points, while Jimmy Berger collected a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists.
 
The Head Coaches
Edinboro: Pat Cleary, Edinboro '99 (43-49, 4th Year)
  • Pat Cleary was introduced as Edinboro's tenth head coach on March 26, 2013 after head coach Greg Walcavich announced his retirement. Cleary served as Walcavich's assistant coach for 14 years.
  • Cleary's teams have improved each year since his appointment, with his 2015-16 team earning the third seed in the PSAC West Tournament with a 15-11 overall record and 14-8 league mark.
  • He made the playoffs for the first time in 2014-15 with a 14-13 record, a four-game improvement over his first year, after being chosen to finish eighth in the PSAC West preseason poll. His first Boro squad finished 10-16 in 2013-14.
 
Gannon: John T. Reilly, Bowie State '86 (199-129, 12th year; Career: 431-277, 24th year)
  • John Reilly is in his 12th season as head coach at Gannon and is one win from his 200th career victory with the Golden Knights. He entered the season ranked 26th among all active Division II coaches in wins.
  • He is the longest-tenured coach and the all-time winningest coach in Gannon history.
  • The Bowie State graduate was previously an assistant coach at Gannon from 1987-93 before becoming the head coach at Brescia, a NAIA institution in Kentucky. He compiled a 232-145 career record in 12 seasons with the Bearcats.
  • Reilly had led Gannon to six league tournament appearances (one GLIAC, five PSAC) and a PSAC Championship in 2015. He has also led them to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including an Elite Eight trip in 2009.

  • Tallied 34 points at Bloomsburg on Monday for his fifth 30-point game of the season and ninth of his career. He moved into 16th place at Edinboro in career scoring with 1,240 points. He has scored at least 20 points in six of the last eight games.
  • Tops the PSAC and ranks 14th in NCAA Division II with 23.5 ppg. Third in the conference in 3-point field goal percentage at 45.1 pct. (41-for-91).
  • Posted his first career back-to-back 30-point performance with 30 points against West Chester on December 4 and 37 markers against Notre Dame (Ohio) on December 7.
  • Became the 28th Fighting Scot to reach the 1,000 career-point milestone at Millersville on November 19.
  • Was the fourth-fastest to reach the 1,000-point mark, doing so in 55 games. Only Adam Cheek (49 games) Tyrone Mason (51 games), Jaymon's father, and Kenny Tate (51 games) have reached the mark faster.
  • Was named to the Division II Bulletin All-American preseason team after earning All-American honorable mention accolades last season.   • Registered 13 points at Bloomsburg after scoring a career-high 25 points against Pitt-Johnstown on Friday.
  • Tallied a pair of 20-point performances against California (Pa.) on December 30 and Notre Dame (Ohio) on December 7.

  • Gannon is riding a three-game winning streak, all of which were overtime victories. They beat California (Pa.), 93-88, Seton Hill in double overtime, 83-73, and rallied to defeat Pitt-Johnstown on Monday, 105-97. The Golden Knights were picked to finish fourth in the PSAC West preseason poll.
  • The Golden Knights look to avenge a season sweep of the Fighting Scots from last season. Gannon swept Edinboro the previous two years, winning six of the previous seven meetings. They finished 7-19 and 6-16 in the PSAC West in 2015-16 after winning the PSAC Championship in 2015.
  • Senior guard Matthew Dogan drilled the game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime against the Mountain Cats. He led the team Monday with 30 points after posting 31 points with ten rebounds against the Griffins. Dogan has started every game and leads Gannon with 16.8 ppg., averaging 20.1 ppg. in the last ten games.
  • Junior guard Zay Jackson posted a career-high 29 points against UPJ. A transfer from Monroe Community College, Jackson is second on the team with 16.6 ppg. in his first year as a Golden Knight. He has started every game this year.
