The Game Story
  • Edinboro (4-10, 2-8 PSAC West) opens up a three-game PSAC West road trip at 12th-ranked Indiana (Pa.) (14-2, 9-1 PSAC West) on Saturday, January 14 at 7:30 p.m.
  • The Fighting Scots have their sights set on an upset of the Crimson Hawks to end a four-game losing streak. The Boro fell to Gannon on Wednesday, 80-69, while IUP posted their fifth straight win with a 73-63 triumph at Millersville.
  • Edinboro was picked to finish fifth in the PSAC West preseason poll, while Indiana (Pa.), who was ranked 12th in the latest NABC poll, was chosen first.
  • Indiana (Pa.) has won 15 of the last 16 meetings against Edinboro. The Fighting Scots' lone win in that span was a 79-77 overtime victory over the 16th-ranked Crimson Hawks on February 14, 2015. IUP has won the last nine contests at home, dating back to 2008.  
  • Saturday's contest features two All-PSAC West preseason choices and two former PSAC West Freshman of the Year honorees. Edinboro's Jaymon Mason, a redshirt junior guard, earned both honors and ranks first in the PSAC and ninth in NCAA Division II in scoring at 23.1 ppg. IUP sophomore forward Jacobo Diaz was chosen to the all-league preseason team, while sophomore guard Dante Lombardi was named the 2016 PSAC West Freshman of the Year.
  • Jaymon Mason scored a team-high 18 points against Gannon on Wednesday, moving into 15th place on the career scoring list with 1,258 points. He is 22 points from passing Fred Riley for 14th place all-time.

  • Indiana (Pa.) shot 53.8 percent from the field (35-for-65), connecting on 11-of-22 3-pointers. Edinboro, meanwhile, shot 44.4 percent and made 3-of-11 3-pointers.
  • Quinn Lee Yaw led Edinboro with 20 points off the bench. Henri Wade-Chatman played just 10 minutes in the first half due to foul trouble, but came back to score all 16 of his points in the second half.
  • Anthony Glover scored a game-high 23 points for IUP. Jacobo Diaz finished with 20 points, while Brandon Norfleet gathered 16 markers.

  • The game was tied at halftime, 30-30. Gannon scored the first four points of the second half and never relinquished the lead.
  • Trailing, 59-49, halfway through the second half, Edinboro battled back with an 11-2 run to pull to within one point at 61-60 with 8:01 remaining. The Golden Knights answered with seven straight points. The Fighting Scots got no closer than five points the rest of the way.
  • Gannon led the rebounding battle, 50-33, including 25 offensive boards. This led to a 23-9 Golden Knights advantage in second-chance points.
  • Jaymon Mason led Edinboro with 18 points and seven assists, while Mike Beck turned in a season-high 17 points, tying his career high of five 3-pointers in seven attempts. Mikael Anderson and Jon Girvin each grabbed seven rebounds, while Mike Sims Jr. tallied nine points in 11 minutes off the bench. Junior center Andre Frederick posted six blocks for the second straight game.
 
1/11/17 – Indiana (Pa.) 73, Millersville 63 at Millersville University BOX | RECAP
  • Anthony Glover led both sides with a career-high 27 points, along with six rebounds. He shot 7-for-13 from the floor and a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line. Jacobo Diaz finished with 15 points and nine rebounds. Dante Lombardi had 11 points, while Brandon Spain collected eight boards.
  • Indiana (Pa.) outrebounded Millersville, 42-21, leading to a 12-3 advantage in second-chance points.
  • After trailing by as much as eight at 20-12 halfway through the first half, the Crimson Hawks responded with a 15-2 run to take the lead for good. IUP built their lead to as much as 16 points in the second half.

Edinboro: Pat Cleary, Edinboro '99 (43-50, 4th Year)
  • Pat Cleary was introduced as Edinboro's tenth head coach on March 26, 2013 after head coach Greg Walcavich announced his retirement. Cleary served as Walcavich's assistant coach for 14 years.
  • Cleary's teams have improved each year since his appointment, with his 2015-16 team earning the third seed in the PSAC West Tournament with a 15-11 overall record and 14-8 league mark.
  • He made the playoffs for the first time in 2014-15 with a 14-13 record, a four-game improvement over his first year, after being chosen to finish eighth in the PSAC West preseason poll. His first Boro squad finished 10-16 in 2013-14.
 
Indiana (Pa.): Joe Lombardi, Youngstown State '81 (239-87, 11th Year)
  • Joe Lombardi, in his 11th season leading IUP, is the program's winningest head coach with 239 wins.
  • Lombardi has led the Crimson Hawks to three PSAC championships, two NCAA Atlantic Region titles and two NCAA National Championship appearances. IUP has made it to the postseason each of the last nine years.
  • The Youngstown State alum was an assistant coach for Indiana (Pa.) from 1984-87. Prior to returning to IUP, Lombardi was an assistant coach at Pitt from 2003-06 after stints at LaSalle, St. Bonaventure and St. Francis. He was also a graduate assistant coach at Ohio and Youngstown State.

Jaymon Mason (G, R-Jr.)
  • Scored 17 points against Gannon on Wednesday to move into 15th place on the all-time career scoring list at Edinboro with 1,257 points.
  • Has tallied five 30-point games this season and posted at least 20 points in nine out of the last ten contests.
  • Leads the PSAC and ranks ninth in NCAA Division II with 23.1 ppg. Third in the conference in 3-point field goal percentage at 42.2 pct. (43-for-102).
  • Posted his first career back-to-back 30-point performance with 30 points against West Chester on December 4 and 37 markers against Notre Dame (Ohio) on December 7.
  • Became the 28th Fighting Scot to reach the 1,000 career-point milestone at Millersville on November 19.
  • Was the fourth-fastest to reach the 1,000-point mark, doing so in 55 games. Only Adam Cheek (49 games) Tyrone Mason (51 games), Jaymon's father, and Kenny Tate (51 games) have reached the mark faster.

  • Edinboro's last two games were tied at halftime. The Fighting Scots played Bloomsburg to a 38-38 halftime score on Monday and took a 30-30 score to the locker room against Gannon on Wednesday. The Huskies scored 59 second-half points, while the Golden Knights dropped in 50. Edinboro has allowed at least 40 second-half points in every game this season.
  • Senior guard Sheldon Brogdon has started the last six games, scoring in double figures in five of those contests. Brogdon has posted a pair of 30-point performances, including a career-high 31 points off the bench against Daemen on November 23. He is third on the team with 11.2 ppg.
  • Redshirt junior forward Jon Girvin, who joined the team in early December, has started the last three games while filling in for an injured Jack Frank. Girvin, who played all 11 games at defensive end for the football team, posted seven rebounds against Gannon on Wednesday. He had a career-high 11 boards off the bench in his second career game against Cheyney on December 10.
  • Sophomore guard Mike Sims Jr. turned in nine points in 11 minutes off the bench against Gannon before leaving the game due to an injury. He shot 3-for-4 from the floor.
  • Junior guard/forward Maceo Baston is averaging 5.6 rpg. in his last five games off the pine. He had a career-high nine rebounds at Bloomsburg on Monday.

  • Indiana (Pa.) has won five straight games and seven of their last eight contests. Their two losses came at the hands of second-ranked Fairmont State and Shippensburg.
  • Head coach Joe Lombardi's team is ranked 12th in the latest NABC national poll after being picked to finish first in the PSAC West preseason poll.
  • The Crimson Hawks rank fourth in the PSAC in scoring defense at 68.6 ppg. They have held their last three opponents to under 70 points, including a season-best 50 points against Slippery Rock on January 6.
