BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – For the first time in the history of the PSAC, a player has won three singles titles at the conference championships.
Vitor Albanese claimed the PSAC singles title with a 5-7, 7-6 (4), 10-8 win over Ruri Fraser of Mercyhurst. Before he claimed the singles crown, he teamed with fellow senior
Daniel Fernandez to win the PSAC doubles title, 8-1, over Nenad Terzic and Unai Gonzalez of Mercyhurst. The tournament was hosted by Bloomsburg.
Last fall, Albanese became the men's player in PSAC history to win two back-to-back singles titles, so it was only fitting that he continued his streak and set more Edinboro tennis history. In the spring, he was named PSAC men's tennis Athlete of the Year.
With the doubles win, Albanese and Fernandez prevented Terzic of Mercyhurst from winning three straight doubles titles. The Fighting Scot duo also became the first team to only drop three games in route to the title.
Edinboro returns to action when they travel to West Chester for a PSAC match up at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 6.
