Jim Glatch has announced that three players have been invited to participate in the Selection Camp for the 2018 US Men's National Team. Juniors
Kevin Atherley and
Will Speed, as well as sophomore
Chayse Wolf have been chosen for the camp that will be held January 2-7 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Co.
This is the second time that both Atherley and Wolf have been chosen to try out, while its Speed's first time being chosen. Wolf was a member of the 2017 U-23 team that played in the World Championships this past summer.
Wolf leads the team averaging 12.3 points this season in the Fighting Scot's 11 games. He has also brought down 84 rebounds while making 10-for-18 on his free throws. The Wilmington, Ohio native has also added 59 assists and 10 steals for Edinboro. He was an NWBA All-Rookie/Freshman team honoree last season.
Ranking second on the team in point average (11.4 ppg), Atherley has led the team in scoring twice this season. But his defense is where he makes an impact for Edinboro. He has 106 rebounds on the season, leading the Fighting Scots in eight of the team's 11 games this season, including the past seven. The Pikesville, Md. native also leads the team in blocks (4) and steals (35).
Speed will make his first trip to Colorado Springs for the national team tryouts. The Monroe, N.C. native missed the team's recent trip to Wisconsin-Whitewater to receive the Violet Baumgardner Scholarship Award, given for his dedication, professionalism, scholarship, and service to Edinboro and the state system of health, physical education, recreation, and dance. He is averaging 4.0 ppg while adding 17 rebounds and 11 assists in his six games this season. He was an NWBA Academic All-American Honorable Mention last season.
The Fighting Scots are 6-5 this season. The claimed the Boro Shootout title for the first time in six years after a 40-39 win over Cleveland on November 11. Edinboro next travels to Columbia, Missouri on December 1-2 for the Missouri Tigers Tournament.
