Men’s Tennis Earns Third Win in Three Days With 8-1 PSAC Win Over West Chester

ERIE, Pa. (March 5, 2017) – The Edinboro University men's tennis team celebrated their third win in three days on Sunday with an 8-1 PSAC victory over West Chester at the Westwood Racquet Club. The Fighting Scots swept the singles competition and took two out of three doubles matches to improve to 8-1 and 2-0 in the PSAC. The Golden Rams dropped to 0-4 and 0-2, respectively.
 
Head coach Lee Underwood's team concluded a busy weekend, which saw them sweep Roberts Wesleyan on Friday and PSAC-opponent Millersville on Saturday. Edinboro was ranked fifth in the latest ITA Alantic Region poll. West Chester was ranked ninth.
 
The number-one doubles team of Vitor Albanese and Mateus Santos earned Edinboro's first win of the day with an 8-1 victory over Lucas Von der Heyde and Keanu Travelino. Daniel Fernandez and Kevin Mboko also took an 8-1 win at number-two doubles over Gerald Mars and Kylil Curry.
 
For the second match in a row, the Fighting Scots took all six singles matches in straight sets, with five posting a shutout in at least one set. Albanese earned his team-leading 19th win by defeating Charlie Rushing in the number-one slot, 6-0 and 6-2. Mauricio Santos picked up his 15th win of the year at the number-two spot with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Von der Heyde. Fernandez defeated Travelino, 6-0 and 6-2, at number three, while Mateus Santos defeated Aidan Henken 6-1, 6-1 in the fourth spot. Mboko defeated Mars in the fifth slot, 6-2 and 6-0, and Kolja Hein downed Curry, 6-3, 6-0, at number six.
 
The Fighting Scots will take a week off before heading down to Hilton Head Island, S.C. for several matches over spring break. Their first match will be against George Mason on Monday, March 13 at 8:30 p.m.
