Fighting Scots Open PSAC Road Trip with 8-1 Win at Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. (April 8, 2017) – The Edinboro University men's tennis team started their two-match PSAC road trip with a resounding 8-1 victory at Bloomsburg on Saturday. The win sits the Fighting Scots at 12-5 overall and 3-0 in the PSAC, putting them two league wins closer to their third straight season sweep of PSAC opponents. The Huskies dropped to 4-6 overall and 2-1 in league play.

For the third straight match, Edinboro won all three doubles matches. They all were no gimmes, however, with Mauricio Santos and Alexander Anderson beating Pablo Herrero and Christian Cioffi at number three doubles by a 9-8 (5) score. The number-one team of Vitor Albanese and Mateus Santos also had a close match with Gerard Puig and Steve Williams, but prevailed, 9-7.

Albanese improved to a league-best 27-4 in singles, beating Herrero at number one 6-2 and 6-0. Mauricio Santos picked up his 20th win of the year with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Henrique Conrado Stemmer in the third spot. Fernandez won a close first set, 7-6 (5) over Gerard Puig, then took the second set, 6-1, for the win at the two spot. Mateus Santos delivered a 7-5, 6-2 win against Leonardo Nakasone at number four, with Kevin Mboko providing a marathon win for the Boro over Steve Williams at five, 3-6, 6-0 and 13-11.

Head coach Lee Underwood's team now heads to Kutztown on Sunday for a 11:00 a.m. PSAC match.
