Albanese Repeats as ITA Atlantic Regional Singles Champion, Combines With Fernandez for Doubles Crown

ERIE, Pa. – The Edinboro men's tennis team captured bot the singles and doubles championships on Sunday at the 2017 ITA Atlantic Regional Championship presented by Oracle. Vitor Albanese repeated as the singles champion, and teamed with Daniel Fernandez to win the doubles crown. The ITA regional tournament was hosted by Mercyhurst at the Pennbriar Racquet Club.

Albanese and Fernandez now head to Rome, Ga. on Oct. 11-15 to compete in the 2017 ITA Oracle Cup. A year ago, Albanese was the first Fighting Scot to win the ITA regional title.

Albanese disposed of Platon Gud of Bluefield State in the semifinals by scores of 6-4, 6-3. He faced another Bluefield State player in the finals. He lost the opening set to Giorgi Datashvili, 6-4, but came back to win the next two sets by identical 6-3 scores.

Albanese and Fernandez met Gud and Ignacio Pulido of Bluefield State in the doubles finals. The duo combined for a 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) win to earn a first-ever trip for an Edinboro doubles team.

In addition, the doubles team of Thomas McCoy and Mauricio Santos won the B doubles title.
