Walter Fletcher Named PSAC West Offensive Player of the Year

Seven Fighting Scots Earn All-PSAC West Accolades

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference today released the All-PSAC Football Teams, with running back Walter Fletcher being named the PSAC West Offensive Player of the Year. He led a group of seven Edinboro players to earn all-conference honors. Five players were accorded first team honors – Fletcher, wide receiver Ta'Nauz Gregory, defensive tackle Derek Dorr, strong safety Brandon Anderson and corner back Zuril Hendrick.  Offensive tackle Trey Staunch and wide receiver James Clark earned second team recognition.  
 
Edinboro ended the 2018 campaign under second-year head coach Wayne Bradford with a 6-5 record.

In addition to Fletcher being named the PSAC West Offensive Player of the Year, Lamont McPhatter of California(Pa.) was the Defensive Player of the Year, with Vulcans teammate Noah Mitchell selected the Freshman of the Year. Slippery Rock's Shawn Lutz was named the Coach of the Year.

Walter Fletcher (Columbia, Md./Centennial) enjoyed a second straight record-setting season while earning first team All-PSAC West honors for the second straight year. He is the first Fighting Scot to be named the PSAC West Offensive Player of the Year since Trevor Harris in 2008.

A 5'10", 192 lb. redshirt junior, he broke Edinboro's single-season rushing record a year ago with 1,740 yards. After ranking second in Division II in rushing last year, he is fourth this year. Fletcher finished the year with 1,624 yards rushing, the sixth-highest season total, on 266 carries, which is fifth in a season. He scored 17 TDs, tied for fourth in a season and ranking ninth in Division II. In addition, he ranked third on the team in receiving with 30 catches for 249 yards. He leads the PSAC and ranks ninth in Division II in all-purpose yards (170.27 ypg.). Finished the year with 1,873 all-purpose yards, which ranks fourth in a season. His 102 points scored is tied for fifth in a season.

Fletcher ran for over 100 yards in nine games and now has 19 career 100-yard games. His top effort was a school-record 328 yards on just 21 carries with 4 TDs vs. Seton Hill. The following week, he ran for 243 yards at Clarion. Over his last five games, he totaled 1,021 yards. He now holds five of the top 13 single-game rushing totals. He also had Edinboro's first-ever 100/100 game with 111 yards rushing and 109 yards receiving vs. Gannon, catching a career-high 7 passes.  

From a career standpoint, Fletcher now has 3,913 career rushing yards, good for third all-time at Edinboro. He ranks fourth in career rushing attempts with 632, and is just one touchdown rushing behind career leader Larry Jackson with 41 TDs. He has already set the school record with 288 career points. In addition, Fletcher's 93 career receptions is a school record by a running back. Finally, he ranks third in career all-purpose yards with 4,605.

Fletcher was named to a pair of preseason All-American teams after being a consensus All-American in 2017. He was selected to the Street & Smith's preseason All-American team and was a second team Lindy's preseason All-American. In 2017, he was a consensus All-American, earning second team Associated Press Division II All-American honors, along with second team D2CCA and Don Hansen Football Gazette accolades, and honorable mention D2Football.com honors. In addition, he earned first team D2CCA and Don Hansen Football Gazette All-Super Region 1 honors.

WR Ta'Nauz Gregory

Ta'Nauz Gregory (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) was the 2016 PSAC West Freshman of the Year, and in 2017 was a second team All-PSAC West choice as a return specialist. The 5'9" junior led Edinboro in receptions (50), yards receiving (796), and receiving TDs (10) while playing in ten games. The 10 TDs is tied for fifth in a season. Gregory leads the PSAC in receiving TDs while ranking fourth in receptions per game.

He also once again excelled as a return specialist, averaging 26.2 yards on 13 kickoff returns and 10.8 yards on 10 punt returns. That includes a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against Bloomsburg. It was the third kickoff return for a touchdown in his career, tying the school record.

Gregory enters his final season ranked third in career receptions (167), fourth in receiving yards (2,330), and second in receiving TDs with 28.

Derek Dorr (Blasdell, NY/Frontier) enjoyed one of the finest seasons by an Edinboro interior lineman in many years while moving up from the second team in 2017 to first team All-PSAC West honors. The 6'3", 297 lb. defensive tackle finished with 71 tackles, ranking third on the team. He had a team-leading 21.0 TFL and 10 sacks, ranking first in the PSAC and third in Division II in TFL and fourth and 15th, respectively, in sacks. He is tied for fifth in a season in sacks at Edinboro, and ranks in the top ten in tackles for losses.

Dorr wraps up his career with 169 tackles while starting 28 games. He totaled 39 TFL, along with 17 sacks, which is tied for ninth in the career records.

Brandon Anderson (Willingboro, NJ/Holy Cross) and Zuril Hendrick (Rochester, NY/ Pittsford Mendon) formed two parts of an outstanding secondary. Anderson, a 6'1", 200 lb. redshirt junior, earned first team All-PSAC West honors for the second straight year. He led the team in tackles for the second year in a row from his strong safety position, totaling 101 tackles, including a team-high 49 solo. He ranks third in the PSAC in tackles per game. Anderson was tied for third on the team in tackles for losses (10.5), with a sack and an interception, along with 8 passes broken up and a pair of fumble recoveries.

Hendrick moved up from a spot on the All-PSAC West second team to earn first team accolades in 2018. The 6'1", 188 lb. senior cornerback finished seventh on the team in tackles with 57, but his specialty is interceptions. After leading Division II in interceptions a year ago with 9, he finished with a team-leading 7 this year. That figure ranks second in the PSAC and fourth in Division II.Hendrick also served on kick returns, averaging 22.2 yards on five kickoff returns and 5.9 yards on nine punt returns. 

Hendrick's seventh pickoff came in his final career game last Saturday vs. Kutztown. It was the 21st of his career, breaking the career record of 20 held by Chris Avery. He finished his career with 51 passes defended. He also broke the career record for return yards on interceptions with 344.


A Lindy's Sports College Football National 2018 Preview second team preseason selection and a College Football America 2018 Yearbook choice, Hendrick earned first team Don Hansen Football Gazette All-American accolades in 2018 and was a first team Don Hansen Football Gazette Super Region I honoree, along with earning second team D2CCA All-Super Region I honors.

DT Derek Dorr
James Clark (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) also departs with a school record, as the 6'1", 180 lb. wide receiver recently set the career record receptions. Clark concluded his career with 209 receptions, while ranking second in career receiving yards (2,759) and third in career TDs (26).

Clark was a first team All-PSAC West choice a year ago. He finished his senior season with 41 receptions for 427 yards and 4 TDs.

Trey Staunch (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) came to Edinboro after a standout high school career at quarterback. He played tight end his first season before moving to offensive tackle his last three seasons. The 6'4", 290 lb. senior was a starter at right tackle the last 33 games, and in all started in 38 games.
Staunch represents an offensive line that paved the way for Fletcher to rank among the nation's leading rushers the last two years. Edinboro averaged 186.1 yards per game rushing, good for fourth in the PSAC, and allowed just 15 sacks, ranking second in the PSAC and 34th nationally.
