- The Edinboro wrestling team opens up EWL action with a pair of road duals at Bloomsburg and Rider. The Fighting Scots first visit the Huskies on Friday, January 11 for a 7 p.m. dual before heading to New Jersey on Saturday, January 12 or another 7 p.m at Rider.
- First-year head coach Matt Hill, a former Edinboro standout, faces a rebuilding year after five national qualifiers transferred following the departure of head coach Tim Flynn to West Virginia. Hill does have two starters back, Fritz Hoehn at 165 lbs. and Zach Ancewicz at 184 lbs., along with Jon-Spaulding, who filled in at heavyweight in several matches last year.
- Edinboro competed in the Southern Scuffle on January 1-2 in Chattanooga, Tenn. Dylan Reynolds led the way, placing sixth at 197 lbs, finishing 5-3 at the event, improving to 21-9 on the season. He had two narrow losses to #11 Dakota Geer of Oklahoma State, including a 1-0 decision in the consolation semifinals. Jacob Oliver (174 lbs.) advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to #5 David McFadden of Virginia Tech. The Fighting Scots finished tied for 18th with 24.5 points. Rider placed 13th with 41 points.
- Edinboro opened their dual season splitting with The Citadel and #21 Wyoming. The Fighting Scots earned Hill a win in his first dual as Edinboro picked up the 19-17 win over the Bulldogs. Ancewicz and Dylan Reynolds (197 lbs.) both earned decisions over the Cowboys to wrap up the day as the Fighting Scots fell, 33-6, Wyoming.
- In their first home duals of the season, the Fighting Scots dropped a pair of back-to-back matches to Tennessee-Chattanooga and Kent State. Edinboro jumped out to a 15-6 lead against Chattanooga, but the Mocs won the last four matches, two by bonus points, to give the Mocs the 23-15 win. Fritz Hoehn (165 lbs.), Jacob Oliver (174 lbs.), Dylan Reynolds (197 lbs.) and Jon Spaulding (285 lbs.). In the second dual of the evening, the Fighting Scots suffered a 26-12 loss to the Golden Flashes. Oliver, Reynolds, and Spaulding were all double-winners on the night with Carmine Ciotti (141 lbs.) picking up a decision win.
- Bloomsburg (1-4, 0-2 EWL) picked up their first dual win of the season on January 4 with a 21-14 win over Hofstra. The Huskies dropped their first two EWL matches of the season falling, 24-11 to George Mason and 36-6 to #15 Lock Haven.
- Grant Bond (149 lbs.) and Nate Newberry (157 lbs.) both won titles at the PSAC Championships on December 8. It marked the first time since 2013 a Husky won an individual weight class at the championships.
- Rider (1-2, 0-0 EWL) opened the season with a win over Penn, 20-18, before dropping its last two duals. The Broncs fell 28-6 to Rutgers and 23-21 to Princeton. Before they face off against Edinboro, Rider will have a pair of duals on Friday, January 11 against Cleveland State and Drexel.
- The Broncs finished 13th at the Southern Scuffle to start 2019. #18 Jesse Dellavecchia (165 lbs.) won four matches and finished fourth to lead Rider in Chattanooga. Both Ethan Laird (197 lbs.) and Chris Wright (133 lbs.) both won three bouts for the Broncs. Laird is a former standout at nearby General McLane High School and was an EWL finalist as a true freshman a year ago.

HEAD COACH
EDINBORO -- Matt Hill (Edinboro '07, 1st Season) assumed the role of head wrestling coach at Edinboro University on May 18, 2018. The former Edinboro standout became the 12th head coach of the wrestling program, and fourth on the Division I level. Hill is no stranger to the Edinboro wrestling program. He competed for former head coach Tim Flynn from 2002-07, then entered the coaching profession. He served as a graduate assistant coach at Kent State from 2007-09. Following his two seasons as a graduate assistant, Hill remained involved in wrestling over the next year, working with Seneca Valley High School. He returned to Kent State as an assistant coach in 2010, and served in that capacity until 2015, when he was appointed associate head coach to head coach Jim Andrassy. During Hill's tenure at KSU as a graduate assistant and full-time assistant, the Golden Flashes went 116-78 in dual meets while enjoying several of the best seasons in program history. The 2015-16 KSU squad finished at 15-3 and was 16th at the NCAA National Championships, while the Golden Flashes were 14-5 in 2011-12 and 14-6 in 2010-11. In addition, Hill assisted in the development of three University National Champions and four Junior FILA National Freestyle All-Americans. Hill was a three-time national qualifier at Edinboro. He remains among the leading wrestlers all-time at Edinboro with a 105-42 career record, including a 32-7 record as a senior. In 2006-07 as a senior, he went 17-1 in dual meets while competing at 157 lbs. Hill was seeded 12th at nationals and posted a 2-2 record.
