THE ALL-TIME SERIES
Edinboro leads 7-5
The Fighting Scots and Bloomsburg met in week number two this year, with the Huskies rallying for a 24-21 win. They have now won three of the last four meetings.

THE LAST MEETING -- Sept. 14, 2019
Bloomsburg 24, Edinboro 21
Bloomsburg spoiled Edinboro's home opener, rallying from a 21-13 deficit late in the third quarter. A pair of special teams breakdowns led to two  Huskies' touchdowns, including the game-winner. Michael Allen gathered in a punt at the 35 and returned it 65 yards for a touchdown and the winning score with 4:50 remaining in the game. Edinboro took a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter as freshman Dorian Woody scored his first collegiate touchdown on a seven-yard pass from Andrew Tomko, and Tomko scrambled 19 yards for a score. Tomko would account for the Fighting Scots' third touchdown on a two-yard run midway through the third quarter. Edinboro's defense limited Bloomsburg to just 215 total yards, including 77 on the ground. Edinboro finished with 267 yards, with Tomko accounting for 255 of those yards with 194 yards passing and a career-high 61 yards rushing. Ta'Nauz Gregory had his 10th 100-yard receiving game with 7 receptions for 113 yards.  The contest featured 19 penalties and exactly 200 penalty yards by the two teams.

LAST WEEK
#19 Indiana(Pa.) 35, Edinboro 6

Edinboro put a scare into 19th-ranked IUP, but the Fighting Scots ultimately done in by four long pass completions and a long punt return. The Fighting Scots trailed just 14-6 early in the third quarter after Vicente Arriagada kicked his second field goal of the game. His kicks covered 30 and 31 yards. IUP would score the final 21 points, building the lead to 21-6 midway through the period, and adding two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Edinboro would hold the Crimson Hawks to zero yards rushing on 29 attempts, but they struggled to contain Quinton Maxwell. The Ohio University transfer threw for 277 yards and 3 TDs. Edinboro ended the day with 258 total yards, rushing for 112 yards and passing for 146 yards, but was hampered by three interceptions. Levi Becker would complete 13-of-35 passes on a cold afternoon for 146 yards, with Ta'Nauz Gregory catching 5 passes for 49 yards. Alvin Lara, the third string tailback, came in following injuries to CJ Reyes-Diggs and Dorian Woody and ran for 58 yards on 17 carries. Reyes-Diggs added 52 yards on 17 totes before exiting.

Shepherd 42, Bloomsburg 35
Bloomsburg saw its string of 20 consecutive winning seasons come to an end when their upset bid fell short against Shepherd with a 42-35 loss.  Nyfease West gave the Huskies a 35-28 advantage on his second touchdown of the day with 12:28 left in regulation before the Rams scored the final 14 points to escape with the win. Shepherd needed just 1:13 to match the score, but a missed extra point left BU clinging to a one-point lead. Shepherd scored the winning touchdown with 5:31 remaining and tacked on the two-point conversion.  Bloomsburg would have an opportunity to tie the score with just over two minutes to play. The Huskies would reach the Shepherd 15 before an interception ended the rally.  The Huskies finished with 298 yards of total offense, with 207 of those coming through the air. Logan Leiby completed 16-of-29 passes for 187 yards with 3 TDs and 2 INTs, along with scoring on a 12-yard run.   Michael Allen finished with 8 catches for 132 yards and 2 TDs, both covering 6 yards. Nyfease West was the leading rusher with 54 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries, adding  3 catches for 29 yards and another touchdown.   Shepherd, which came in as the PSAC leader in total offense, had 476 yards on the afternoon. Shepherd grabbed a quick 14-0 lead, but Bloomsburg roared back 21 second quarter points and went to the half tied at 21-21. Bloomsburg would grab the lead on a six-yard TD pass from Leiby to Allen, but Shepherd tied it at 28-28 with a touchdown with 34 seconds left in the third quarter, setting the stage for the wild fourth quarter.

THE COACHES
Wayne Bradford (Salisbury St. '90) was named Edinboro's 15th head coach on March 29, 2017 and led Edinboro to a 7-4 record in his first season. That was followed by a 6-5 finish a year ago, and as Bradford wraps up his third season, he shows a 16-16 record. The 13 wins entering the season were tied for the most by an Edinboro head coach in his first two seasons. After serving as interim head coach in 2017, that tag was removed less than a week after the conclusion of the season. With his tenth win as head coach coming against East Stroudsburg last year, Bradford is the fastest coach to reach 10 wins at Edinboro. Bradford has worked under four different head coaches and was an assistant at Edinboro for 18 years before taking over as the interim head coach. He has spent a majority of his time as the Fighting Scots' defensive coordinator, although in 2019 he will move over to the offensive side to oversee the offense. Bradford has master-minded some brilliant defensive performances over the years in a day and age when offense has taken over. For instance, in 2011 the Fighting Scots ranked eighth in Division II in scoring defense (17.0 ppg.), 11th in pass efficiency defense, and 18th in total defense (292.6 ypg.). Edinboro gave up fewer than 20 points in seven of its 11 games. Two years ago, his Edinboro defense finished first in the PSAC and fourth in Division II in tackles for losses, and second in the PSAC and sixth in the country in sacks. Edinboro finished the 2016 campaign with a 9-2 record, marking the fifth time an Edinboro team with Bradford on the staff tied the school record for victories (9). Three of Edinboro's teams during his tenure have reached the NCAA playoffs, including the 2009 team, which finished at 9-4 and reached the Super Region One semifinals. All told, he has been a part of 121 wins.

Paul Darragh (temple '85) was named head coach of Bloomsburg on December 6, 2013 after being appointed interim head coach in February, 2013. Overall, he is in his 23rd season with the Huskies in 2019 and his seventh as head coach. He has a 51-28 record as the head coach of the Huskies, including a 6-5 record a year ago and 7-4 in 2017. They have posted a winning record in each of his seven seasons as head coach.  With Darragh on the Huskies' staff, dating back to his first season as defensive coordinator in 1997, Bloomsburg has compiled an overall record of 185-68. The first two seasons of the Darragh Era will go down as two of the strongest in Huskies history. Darragh posted a 21-4 overall record, back-to-back PSAC East titles, two NCAA Playoff berths, and a PSAC Championship (2013) while being named PSAC East Coach of the Year in both 2013 and 2014.  Following the 2014 season, he was honored as the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Super Region One Coach of the Year. Darragh served as the Huskies' defensive coordinator for 16 years. He has also served as an assistant coach at Gannon and Indiana(Pa.).

THE GAME STORIES
  • After originally being scheduled to play nationally-ranked Kutztown the final week of the season, Edinboro will now close out the 2019 campaign at Bloomsburg in a rematch of a week number contest. The Huskies spoiled Edinboro's home opener that day, 24-21. Kutztown, meanwhile, is the Eastern Division champion and will meet Slippery Rock in the PSAC Championship Game.
  • Edinboro enters the season finale at 3-7, 3-4 in the PSAC West, with last week's loss at 19th-ranked IUP snapping a two-game winning streak.  Three of those losses have come to nationally-ranked teams.  This will mark the first losing season in Wayne Bradford's three seasons as head coach. Bloomsburg, meanwhile, saw its string of 20 consecutive winning seasons come to an end with a 42-35 loss to Shepherd. The Huskies are 4-6 overall after seeing their three-game winning streak snapped, and are 3-4 in the PSAC East.
  • The Fighting Scots have been beset by injuries, and while they have done a good job overcoming them, it might finally be catching up. The defense has been able to overcome the loss of five starters for an extended period, with two others missing a game or two. The offense, however, has been decimated. Third-string quarterback Levi Becker has started the last four games, and the Fighting Scots are now down to third string running back Alvin Lara at tailback. Making matters worse, two starters have been lost on a very thin offensive line, and the Scots are also down to their third tight end.
  • The Edinboro defense has turned in a very solid campaign despite the injuries. This past week, the Fighting Scots limited IUP to zero yards rushing on 29 carries, the lowest total ever by an IUP team against Edinboro. The Crimson Hawks would finish with 277 total yards, the third straight week Edinboro has held the opponent under 280 total yards, and the seventh time with less than 400 yards.
  • Ta'Nauz Gregory wraps up a brilliant career at Bloomsburg. The senior wide receiver holds school records for career receptions (229), career receiving yards (3,168) while tying the record for career TDs receiving (35). He also holds the record for career kickoff return yards (2,146) and is second in career all-purpose yards  (5,703).
  • Redshirt freshman kicker Vicente Arriagada may be the team's MVP this year. He has made 15-of-18 field goals, tying the school record for field goals made in a season. He saw a string of 10 straight successful attempts come to an end last week when his 46-yarder into the wind came up short. He would proceed to convert his next two attempts. His 35-yard field goal accounted for the winning point in the 18-17 win at Gannon.  He has been named the PSAC West Special Teams Player of the Week twice this year.
  • Brandon Anderson is on the verge of becoming the first player since 1999 to lead Edinboro in tackles three straight years. The redshirt senior strong safety has a team-leading 88 tackles, 18 ahead of Maurice Sims, and moved into the top ten in career tackles during the Clarion game. He has 341 tackles, good for ninth place.
