  • The Edinboro wrestling team will host Oklahoma in their final non-conference dual of the season on Saturday, February 9. The Fighting Scots are coming off a 30-10 loss to #24 Lock Haven a week ago. The Sooners have dropped their last three duals, all to ranked opponents. The match between Edinboro and Oklahoma is slated for 7:00 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
  • Fans will have a few places to listen to the dual against the Sooners. WFSE 88.9 FM will continue to broadcast the dual but fans can also follow the action on WWCB Country 1370 AM.
  • First-year head coach Matt Hill, a former Edinboro standout, has faced a rebuilding year after five national qualifiers transferred following the departure of head coach Tim Flynn to West Virginia. Hill does have two starters back, Fritz Hoehn at 165 lbs. and Zach Ancewicz at 184 lbs., along with Jon Spaulding, who filled in at heavyweight in several matches last year.
  • The NCAA  released its first set of four coaches' rankings for the 2018-19 wrestling season recently, ranking 33 wrestlers in each weight class. Edinboro has three wrestlers currently in the rankings. Jacob Oliver is the top ranked Fighting Scot. The redshirt freshman is ranked 27th at 174 lbs. Dylan Reynolds (197 lbs.), a redshirt junior, and Jon Spaulding (285 lbs.), a sophomore, are both ranked 29th in their respective weight classes. Reynolds leads Edinboro in total wins with a 29-9 record while Oliver has the highest winning percentage at .851 (24-4 overall record). Reynolds and Oliver have both won their past five dual matches.
  • On January 31, #24 Lock Haven snapped the Fighting Scots 16-match winning streak against the Bald Eagles with a 30-10 win in McComb Fieldhouse. The last previous win for Lock Haven was a 22-18 during the 2001-02 season. Edinboro got wins from Tyler Vath (149 lbs.), Jacob Oliver (174 lbs.) and Dylan Reynolds (197 lbs.). The win by Vath was his first since 2016.
  • Jacob Oliver (174 lbs.) has improved to 24-4 on the season after his win over Jared Siegrist of Lock Haven last Thursday. This season as a redshirt freshman, Oliver has eight major decisions and four technical falls. He has won the PSAC championship,  Michigan State Open (fresh./soph.) and the Journeyman Northeast Open (174C) titles at 174 lbs. this season. He has also finished second at the Navy Classic.
  • Dylan Reynolds improved on his team leading 29 wins on the season. He picked up career win number 50 in a 5-1 decision over Parker McClellan of Lock Haven on Thursday before winning three matches at the Edinboro Open and finishing runner-up at 197 lbs.
  • Former Edinboro assistant coach and All-American Lou Rosselli is in his third season as the head coach at Oklahoma. His first squad ended with an 11-6 record and finished second at the 2017 Big 12 Championships. The Sooners were 8-11 a year ago and come in with a 5-6 record this year while facing a demanding schedule.
  • The Sooners own a split with nationally-ranked Arizona State, plus a 23-12 triumph over then 20th-ranked Lock Haven, with five of their defeats to nationally-ranked squads. Oklahoma features a young lineup with five freshmen or redshirt freshman, led by Don Demas. The redshirt freshman is ranked 16th by InterMat at 141 lbs. Demas has a 21-7 record. The lone senior in the lineup, Davion Jeffries is 14-8 at 149 lbs., and has 77 career victories. He is a three-time NCAA qualifier.

HEAD COACH
EDINBORO -- Matt Hill (Edinboro '07, 1st Season) assumed the role of head wrestling coach at Edinboro University on May 18, 2018.  The former Edinboro standout became the 12th head coach of the wrestling program, and fourth on the Division I level. Hill is no stranger to the Edinboro wrestling program. He competed for former head coach Tim Flynn from 2002-07, then entered the coaching profession. He served as a graduate assistant coach at Kent State from 2007-09. Following his two seasons as a graduate assistant, Hill remained involved in wrestling over the next year, working with Seneca Valley High School. He returned to Kent State as an assistant coach in 2010, and served in that capacity until 2015, when he was appointed associate head coach to head coach Jim Andrassy.  During Hill's tenure at KSU as a graduate assistant and full-time assistant, the Golden Flashes went 116-78 in dual meets while enjoying several of the best seasons in program history. The 2015-16 KSU squad finished at 15-3 and was 16th at the NCAA National Championships, while the Golden Flashes were 14-5 in 2011-12 and 14-6 in 2010-11. In addition, Hill assisted in the development of three University National Champions and four Junior FILA National Freestyle All-Americans. Hill was a three-time national qualifier at Edinboro. He remains among the leading wrestlers all-time at Edinboro with a 105-42 career record, including a 32-7 record as a senior.  In 2006-07 as a senior, he went 17-1 in dual meets while competing at 157 lbs. Hill was seeded 12th at nationals and posted a 2-2 record.

SCOUTING THE SOONERS

Third-year head coach Lou Rosselli has the accent on youth this year. His lineup features five wrestlers who are freshmen or redshirt freshmen. That has led to a 5-8 record in dual meets, with five of those losses to nationally-ranked teams. The Sooners split a pair of matches with nationally-ranked Arizona State, and also own a 23-12 victory over a Lock Haven team that was ranked 20th at the time. The Sooners are led by redshirt freshman Don Demas, who is ranked 16th by InterMat at 141 lbs. Demas is a two-time Ohio state champion while competing at Dublin Coffman. He comes in with a 21-7 record. Senior Davion Jeffries is 14-8 at 149 lbs., and has 77 career victories. He is a three-time NCAA qualifier. Justin Thomas, a redshirt sophomore, is one weight class up at 157 lbs., and has a 13-8 record. At 184 lbs., the Sooners will send out Kayne MacCallum (10-12). A graduate student, he is using his final year of eligibility at Oklahoma after previously wrestling at Eastern Michigan. He earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships last year after winning the Mid-American Conference title at 184 lbs.
