THE ALL-TIME SERIES
East Stroudsburg leads 13-7

Edinboro snapped a three-game losing streak to the Warriors with a 49-24 win last year at Sox Harrison Stadium. The Fighting Scots have not won at Eiler-Martin Stadium since 2009. That year, Edinboro won a 31-16 decision in the first round of the NCAA Super Region 1 playoffs.

LAST YEAR'S GAME
Edinboro 49, East Stroudsburg 24
Walter Fletcher ran for three short touchdowns and Ta'Nauz Gregory caught a pair of touchdown passes and threw for another as Edinboro handed East Stroudsburg a 49-24 defeat in the first game at Sox Harrison Stadium in 2018. The Fighting Scots improved to 3-0 with the decisive PSAC crossover victory. Gregory accounted for Edinboro's first score thanks to a little trickeration, completing a 25-yard pass to quarterback Andrew Tomko following a lateral. The junior wide receiver would later add touchdown catches of 59 and 12 yards while posting career highs with 11 receptions for 162 yards. Fletcher scored on runs of 1, 3, and 6 yards and has now opened the season with three straight 100-yard games after rushing for 110 yards on 20 carries. Kyle Galyk also topped 100 yards with a career-high 132 yards on 12 carries, capped by a 77-yard touchdown run. Tomko recovered from a subpar effort at Bloomsburg to burn the Warriors for 282 yards passing, completing 22-of-35 passes. Edinboro led 35-3 at the half and boosted the lead to 42-3 before a sloppy fourth quarter led to three ESU scores. The Fighting Scots finished with a season-high 569 yards, with 262 yards rushing and 307 yards passing.  East Stroudsburg totaled 392 yards, most of that through the air (311 yards). After rushing for 239 yards and 6 TDs a week ago against Seton Hill, ESU tailback Jaymar Anderson was held to 68 yards on 21 carries. The defense turned in another outstanding effort, forcing six turnovers (five interceptions) and recording a pair of sacks. Billy DePaul had a pair of interceptions and Derek Dorr accounted for both sacks.  The defense also limited ESU to 2 third-down conversions in 13 attempts.

LAST WEEK
Bloomsburg 24, Edinboro 21

Bloomsburg spoiled Edinboro's home opener, rallying from a 21-13 deficit late in the third quarter. A pair of special teams breakdowns led to two  Huskies' touchdowns, including the game-winner. Michael Allen gathered in a punt at the 35 and returned it 65 yards for a touchdown and the winning score with 4:50 remaining in the game. Edinboro took a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter as freshman Dorian Woody scored his first collegiate touchdown on a seven-yard pass from Andrew Tomko, and Tomko scrambled 19 yards for a score. Tomko would account for the Fighting Scots' third touchdown on a two-yard run midway through the third quarter. Edinboro's defense limited Bloomsburg to just 215 total yards, including 77 on the ground. Edinboro finished with 267 yards, with Tomko accounting for 255 of those yards with 194 yards passing and a career-high 61 yards rushing. Ta'Nauz Gregory had his 10th 100-yard receiving game with 7 receptions for 113 yards.  The contest featured 19 penalties and exactly 200 penalty yards by the two teams.

East Stroudsburg 31, Seton Hill 18
Jake Cirillo tallied 260 yards passing and 96 yards rushing to lead the Warriors to the win at Seton Hill.    The redshirt sophomore quarterback gave ESU a 7-0 lead five plays into the game with a five-yard TD run after hooking up with Ezequiel Lopez on a 68-yard pass play.   The lead would grow to 21-3 in the second quarter on a seven-yard run by Devante Robinson and a two-yard pass from Cirillo to Javier Buffalo. Seton Hill would close the gap to 21-18 early in the third quarter, but the Warriors scored the final ten points. Cirillo and Lopez combined on a six-yard scoring pass midway through the third quarter, and Jordan Walters drilled a 49-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter.  ESU totaled 421 yards while holding Seton Hill to 324 yards.

THE COACHES
Wayne Bradford (Salisbury St. '90) was named Edinboro's 15th head coach on March 29, 2017 and led Edinboro to a 7-4 record in his first season. That was followed by a 6-5 finish a year ago, giving Bradford a 13-11 record early in his third season. The 13 wins is tied for the most by an Edinboro head coach in his first two seasons. After serving as interim head coach in 2017, that tag was removed less than a week after the conclusion of the season. With his tenth win as head coach coming against East Stroudsburg last year, Bradford is the fastest coach to reach 10 wins at Edinboro. Bradford has worked under four different head coaches and was an assistant at Edinboro for 18 years before taking over as the interim head coach. He has spent a majority of his time as the Fighting Scots' defensive coordinator, although in 2019 he will move over to the offensive side to oversee the offense. Bradford has master-minded some brilliant defensive performances over the years in a day and age when offense has taken over. For instance, in 2011 the Fighting Scots ranked eighth in Division II in scoring defense (17.0 ppg.), 11th in pass efficiency defense, and 18th in total defense (292.6 ypg.). Edinboro gave up fewer than 20 points in seven of its 11 games. Two years ago, his Edinboro defense finished first in the PSAC and fourth in Division II?in tackles for losses, and second in the PSAC and sixth in the country in sacks. Edinboro finished the 2016 campaign with a 9-2 record, marking the fifth time an Edinboro team with Bradford on the staff tied the school record for victories (9). Three of Edinboro's teams during his tenure have reached the NCAA playoffs, including the 2009 team, which finished at 9-4 and reached the Super Region One?semifinals. All told, he has been a part of 118 wins.

Mike Terwilliger (East Stroudsburg '07), ESU's record-setting quarterback and the 2005 Harlon Hill Award winner as the most outstanding player in Division II football, was promoted to head coach in February, 2019. This is his fifth on the ,Warriors' coaching staff.  Terwilliger served as associate head coach during the 2018 season, leading the program in an interim capacity for the final two games after legendary head coach Denny Douds stepped aside following 45 years at the helm. He was ESU's defensive backs coach his first three years, from 2015-17. Terwilliger, a four-time Harlon Hill candidate and three-time finalist, graduated with 18 NCAA Division II records and two NCAA all-division records as part of his All-America career at ESU (2003-06). He was inducted into the ESU Athletic Hall of Fame in fall 2017. He led the Warriors to two NCAA DII Playoff appearances (2004 and 2005) and won the Northeast Region title in 2005, advancing to the national semifinals. ESU won the PSAC East regular season title in 2003. He tied the NCAA all-division record for touchdown passes (148) and set DII career records for total offense (16,064 yards), passing yards (14,350), pass efficiency (170.7), touchdowns responsible for (161) and points responsible for (966). He was the first quarterback in Division II history with 3,000 yards of total offense in each of his four seasons. He was a three-time All-America selection, and was twice named to the AP Little All-America second team (2005 and 2006). He was a three-time first team Daktronics All-Region selection (2004-06) and a three-time PSAC East Offensive Player of the Year (2003-04, 2006). He is the only quarterback in PSAC East history to be named first team in each of his four seasons. Terwilliger graduated from ESU in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education.

THE GAME STORIES
  • Edinboro heads out on the highway for a long trip for the second time in three weeks, and will also play its second  straight PSAC crossover contest. The Fighting Scots are in search of their first win after suffering a 35-10 loss at then 12th-ranked Grand Valley State, followed by a 24-21 setback to Bloomsburg in last week's home opener.
  • East Stroudsburg is off to a surprising 2-0 start with road wins at Wagner (24-14) and Seton Hill (31-18). The Warriors were picked to finish sixth in the PSAC?East after going 2-9 a year ago. They are under the direction of former standout quarterback Jimmy Terwilliger, the 2005 Harlon Hill Trophy recipient. Terwilliger took over on an interim basis with two games left in the 2018 campaign. As a player, he bedeviled the Fighting Scots on several occasions.  This is the home opener for ESU.
  • East Stroudsburg holds a 13- lead in the all-time series that dates back to 1967.  The two teams met for the first time since 2015 a year ago, with Edinboro prevailing 49-24 at Sox Harrison Stadium to snap a three-game losing streak to the Warriors.
  • Edinboro was picked to finish fifth in the PSAC?West Coaches Preseason Poll after finishing fourth in the division a year ago with a 3-4 ledger.
  • Edinboro relies on a defense that showcases a talented secondary, despite losing All-Amercan Zuril Hendrick at cornerback. The Fighting Scots, under defensive coordinator Colin Neely, led the PSAC and ranked fifth in Division II in interceptions with 19, along with ranking first in the conference and fourth nationally in turnovers gained. Edinboro led Division II in tackles for losses and ranked third in the PSAC and 21st nationally in sacks.
  • The Fighting Scots return 27 lettermen, including 14 starters -- five on offense, seven on defense, and two special teams specialists.
  • Edinboro must replace three players who left an indelible mark on the record books. Running back Walter Fletcher, the 2018 PSAC?West Offensive Player of the Year, had back-to-back 1,500-yard plus seasons rushing and moved up to third in career rushing in his first three seasons with 3,913 yards and 41 TDs. He decided to transfer to Division I Ball State for his final season. Wide receiver James Clark set the school record for career receptions with 209, while cornerback Zuril Hendrick broke the career record for interceptions with 21.
  • Seven players earned All-PSAC?West accolades in 2018, with two returning. Strong safety Brandon Anderson was named to the All-PSAC?West first team for the second straight year after leading team in tackles for the second straight season with 101. Ta'Nauz Gregory was first team All-PSAC?West selection at wide receiver and is now a two-time All-PSAC?West performer, along with being named the 2016 PSAC West Freshman of the Year. He caught 50 passes for 796 yards and a league-high 10 TDs.
  • Last week's Bloomsburg game marked the first of ten straight games in Pennsylvania against PSAC teams to wrap up the season. Edinboro begins PSAC?West action hosting Cal U on Saturday, September 28.
