Fighting Scots Win Spring Opener at Walsh

Box Score (New/Sortable Format) North Canton, OH. – The Edinboro men's tennis team currently ranked third in the ITA Atlantic Region Poll, kicked off the spring portion of their schedule Saturday, as they competed at Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio. The Fighting Scots improved to 1-0 on the season with a tight 4-3 victory over the Cavaliers. Walsh would fall to 1-2 with the loss.
The dynamic duo of Nils Plutat and Tommy Hsu picked up where they left off in the fall as they opened up the match by taking the first doubles match 6-4. But the Cavaliers would go on and take the next two doubles matches winning the second 6-4 and the third 7-6,7-5, to take an early 1-0 lead.

With Walsh having an early 1-0 lead going into the singles matches, Edinboro would dominate right from the beginning as they won the first four singles matches. Plutat would lead them off in the first singles match as he would lose the first set 6-2 but go on to win the next two sets 6-4 and 6-2. Hsu and freshman Ruben Acuna would go on to take singles matches two and three, with Hsu winning his match in two sets, 6-1, 6-2 and Acuna also winning in two sets 6-2, 6-0. Kaio Sacchi would close out the last win for the Fighting Scots as he would go on to win the fourth singles match in two sets with scores of 6-3 and 6-2.
The Fighting Scots are back in action on Saturday, February 8^th as they host Hillsdale College. Match is scheduled to being at 3:00 PM.
