THE GAME STORIES  
  • Edinboro opens up the second half of PSAC West action hosting local rival Gannon. The Golden Knights captured the first meeting between the two a month ago, 79-59. Edinboro opened the season with four straight wins, but the Fighting Scots are now looking to snap a nine-game losing streak. The last five losses have come wth leading scorer Anthony Coleman on the bench with an injury. The Fighting Scots are 5-13 overall and 2-12 in the PSAC West following last Wednesday's 93-56 loss at Mercyhurst. They had a much-needed bye on Wednesday. Gannon defeated Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday, 64-58 to improve to 10-9 overall and 9-6 in the PSAC West. 
  • This will be the second of two EUknighted 2020 games as Edinboro and Gannon collaborate to benefit the Pa. Soldiers' & Sailors' Home. The festivities include a Hoopy Hour from 4-7 p.m. at The Edinboro Hotel, with proceeds benefiting the Pa. Soldiers' & Sailors' Home. For more details, click HERE
  • The Fighting Scots were picked to finish tied for seventh in the PSAC coaches' preseason poll.  Edinboro is averaging 71.4 ppg., good for 15th in the PSAC, and one spot ahead of Gannon, who is averaging 69.3 ppg. The Fighting Scots are ranked 17th in scoring defense at 84.5 ppg. Gannon comes in at 68.1 ppg., ranking fourth in the PSAC.
  • The Fighting Scots have been without leading scorer Anthony Coleman the last five games due to an injury, and several other players have missed time of late. They were also without second-leading scorer Jaryn Simpson for two games.  Coleman, a 6'3" redshirt senior, is averaging 18.8 ppg. and has made 33-of-79 3-pointers. He was sixth in the PSAC in scoring but has since fallen out of the rankings. He is second on the team in rebounding at 5.7 rpg., along with being second on the team with 12 steals. He has had six games of 20-or-more points, including a pair of 30-point efforts. He matched his career high with 32 points at Millersville, followed by 30 points in the win at Kutztown. Coleman was a second team All-PSAC West selection in 2017-18, then missed most of the 2018-19 season with an injury, playing in just four games.
  • Trey Staunch has been the biggest constant for Edinboro during its losing streak. The former all-conference performer at offensive tackle in football is averaging 14.6 ppg. and a team-high 7.7 rpg. while shooting 53.3 percent from the floor (97-of-182), good for fourth in the PSAC. The big man displays a soft touch at the charity stripe, ranking second in the PSAC in free throw percentage at 89.5 percent (68-of-76). Staunch has scored in double figures the last ten games, and has had three double-doubles in the last seven games. Over the last ten games, he is averaging 17.7 ppg. and 9.1 rpg. The 6'4", 285 lb. graduate student muscled his way for 14.4 ppg. and a team-leading 7.4 rpg. a year ago.
  • After earning second team All-PSAC West honors a year ago, junior Jaryn Simpson is enjoying another strong season. The 6'3" junior scored a career-high 38 points against Clarion, making 13-of-25 field goals, including 5-of-10 3-pointers, and 10-of-10 free throws, for his third career 30-point effort. Simpson is averaging 16.2 ppg., while adding 5.1 rpg., along with a team-high 71 assists and 15 steals. He ranks fourth in assists in the PSAC and has made 43-of-117 3-pointers. That's good for third in the conference in 3-pointers made per game (2.7). A year ago, Simpson averaged a team-high 18.0 ppg., making 76-of-210 3-pointers. he set a school record for free throw at 90.2 percent from the line, making 110-of-122. That figure led the PSAC, as well.
  • Turner Kurt came up with a career-best effort recently at Slippery Rock. The 6'8" sophomore scored a career-high 22 points, 16 in the second half. He had scored 31 points in the previous nine games. He tied a career-best with five 3-pointers. Kurt returned to the starting lineup after coming off the bench the last nine games. He is averaging 6.7 ppg. and has made 19-of-61 3-pointers.
  • Daylon Harris, a 6'5" senior, has started the last 11 games after coming off the bench the first seven contests. He is averaging 9.3 ppg.  Alex Jay comes in at 5.8 ppg. The 6'3" junior adds 5.2 rpg. and has made 21-of-63 3-pointers.

Edinboro had three players score in double figures, but it wasn't enough to overcome a career night by Gannon's Dante Cicero. Anthony Coleman led Edinboro with 22 points, 17 of those in the first half. It was his fifth 20-point game of the season. The redshirt senior guard added six rebounds. Trey Staunch made 6-of-9 field goals and was 7-of-8 from the line for 19 points. He added a team-high seven rebounds. Daylon Harris was also in double figures with 11 points on the strength on three 3-pointers. Cicero led Gannon with a career-high 27 points, adding 11 rebounds. The Golden Knights had five players in double figures. Victor Olawoye had 11 points and seven rebounds, while Matt Johnson also had 11 points and six assists. Michael Tertsea and Webb had 10 points apiece, with Teatsea contributing eight boards.
  
HEAD COACH 
Pat Cleary (Edinboro '99) -- 79-99, 7th Year
  • After serving as an assistant coach under Greg Walcavich for 14 years, Pat Cleary was introduced as Edinboro's tenth head coach on March 26, 2013. He is now in his seventh season at the helm and has a 79-99 record, with three teams making the PSAC Tournament.           
  • Cleary's first three teams improved each year, with his 2015-16 team earning the third seed in the PSAC West Tournament with a 15-11 overall record and 14-8 league mark.
  • The 2017-18 Fighting Scots were picked to finish eighth in the PSAC West Coaches' Preseason Poll. They would surprise the league with a fourth place finish at 13-9 in league play, and 18-11 overall. Edinboro would defeat Pitt-Johnstown in the opening round of the PSAC Tournament, then hand top-seeded Indiana(Pa.) a defeat in the quarterfinals. The playoff run came to an end with a loss to eventual PSAC champion East Stroudsburg in the semifinals. It marked Edinboro's first appearance in the PSAC Final Four since 2008.
  • Cleary was named the 2018 PSAC West Coach of the Year. The 18 wins were the most by the Fighting Scots since the 2012-13 team won 18 games.  
  • He guided Edinboro to the PSAC Tournament for the first time in 2014-15 with a 14-13 record, a four-game improvement over his first year, after being chosen to finish eighth in the PSAC West preseason poll.
SCOUTING GANNON
  • Gannon has won three straight games to move above .500 at 10-9 overall and 9-5 in the PSAC West. The Golden Knights come off a 64-58 win over Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday. Defense has been the key for Gannon, holding the last three opponents and five of the last six to under 60 points. They are tied for third in the conference in scoring defense at 68.1 ppg. Gannon is under the direction of first-year coach Kelvin Jefferson, who was previously an assistant coach at Division I Old Dominion the last three seasons.  Jefferson welcomed back three starters from a team that finished 11-18 a year ago.  The Golden Knights have three players scoring in double figures, led by DeAnte Cisero. The 6'6" senior leads the team in scoring (13.7 ppg.) and rebounding (5.8 rpg.). He burned the Fighting Scots for a career-high 27 points and 11 rebounds in the first meeting.        Frank Webb Jr., a 6'3" junior guard, is averaging 12.3 ppg. and stands second in rebounding at 5.2 per game. He has 52 assists and a team-high 32 steals. Chris Clancy is a 3-point specialist, with 50 of his 60 field goals from beyond the arc. The 6'2" freshman has made 50-of-109 3-pointers, ranking second in the PSAC in 3-point field goal percentage (45.9 pct.) and fourth in 3-pointers per game (2.6), while averaging 10.4 ppg. He is also 27-of-28 at the line. Matt Johnson starts at point guard for the Knights. The powerfully-built 6'0" senior has a team-high 65 assists while averaging 9.6 ppg. He was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week on Monday. Victor Olawoye, 6'2" sophomore guard, has made 27-of-77 3-pointers while averaging 9.2 ppg..
