Boro Hands Coach Duncan a Birthday Present a Day Late with Win over Ashland

Box Score (New/Sortable Format) ERIE, Pa. – It may have come a day late, but Edinboro men's tennis coach Kody Duncan will take it. His Fighting Scots presented him with the perfect birthday present, a win. Duncan's birthday was on Saturday, but Edinboro dropped a 6-1 decision to Hillsdale. Playing for the second straight day, Edinboro won by the identical 6-1 score over Ashland at Edinboro's indoor home, the Westwood Racquet Club.

The win boosted Edinboro to 2-1 while Ashland is now 3-1. The Fighting Scots are ranked third in the ITA Atlantic Region rankings.

Edinboro would gain the doubles point thanks to wins at number one and three doubles. Nils Plutat and Tommy Hsu gained the advantage with a 7-6 tiebreaker win at number one doubles.

The Fighting Scots then won five of six singles matches, with four coming in straight sets. Plutat improved to 11-2 at number one singles with a 6-4, 6-4 win. Duncan made a subtle change in the lineup, switching third and fourth singles. Kaio Sacchi won 6-4, 6-4 at number three, and Ruben Acuna slid back to fourth and won a 6-4, 6-2 decision.

Billy Chang would prevail in a long three-set match at number five singles, 4-6, 6-3, 10-7. At number six singles, Jorge Benette prevailed 6-2, 6-1.
