Box Score (New/Sortable Format) 2 EDINBORO, Pa. - The men's and women's tennis teams took care of business against the Penn State Behrend Lions in non-conference action Friday evening held at the Westwood Racquet Club. The win makes it four straight wins for the men's program and the women's program was able to pick up their first team win of the 2021 campaign.
Both teams were able to win in a clean sweep with no singles matches even entering a third game. On the women's side,
Kaede Tada picked up her fourth singles win of the season playing in number one singles. Sophomore
Torye Calleja won her second straight single's match at the number two single spot.
Ana Nadai, Marina Zottelle, and newcomer
Emily Moczulski all picked up their first singles wins of their young college careers. Fellow first-year
Emily Cevera picked up her second career singles win on Friday. In doubles, the duo of Tada and Calleja were able to pick up their first wins of the season as a team as were Zottele and Nadai. The team of
Emily Cevera and
Lauren Chiacchia are now 3-3 as doubles partners this season after their second straight win Friday evening.
On the men's side, Edinboro as a team has now won eighteen straight matches as a team after a sweep of Kutztown and now Penn State Behrend.
Takahiro Inoue and
Ruben Acuna both picked up their fourth singles wins of the season with
Gustavo Martins and
Thibault Dorval continuing to remain tied as the team leaders in wins as they both picked up their sixth singles victories against Behrend.
Kaio Sacchi picked up his fifth singles win of the season Friday, with first-year
Kai Chin Chen proceeding to pick up his fourth win of his college career. In doubles, the duos of Inoue and Chin Chen were able to pick up the victory at number one doubles. First-year players Dorval and Martins were victorious in number two doubles, while
Jorge Benette and
Kaio Sacchi were able to come away with a win in number three doubles.
The men's program returns to action later today in a match with Shepherd University being held at Edinboro at 2:30 p.m.. As for the women's team, they hit the road to face PSAC opponent California University of Pennsylvania on Tuesday, March 30 with the match set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
