Fighting Scots tennis teams prepare for Friday-Saturday slate of matches

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Fighting Scots tennis programs prepare for two matches each this weekend as both the men and women will host Daemen College on Friday, April 2 with a 3:00 p.m. start. The match is slated to be held at the Edinboro University tennis courts.

Both teams will return to action the next day as the women prepare for their second showdown of the season against Slippery Rock University, while the men will welcome Fairmont State. These matches are scheduled to begin at noon and will also be held at the Edinboro University tennis courts.

The women's program comes into the weekend winners of two straight matches as they swept Penn State Behrend on March 26 and also swept PSAC foe Cal (Pa.) on March 30. Torye Calleja and Kaede Tada are each going for their fourth straight singles victory, while Emily Cevera, Ana Nadai, and Marina Zottele will look to make it three straight singles wins.

As for the men, they hold an unblemished 6-0 mark over the Daemen Wildcats all time with the series dating back to 2013.  Edinboro holds a 6-2 record all time over the Fighting Falcons of Fairmont State but will be looking to snap a two-game skid against their opponent from the Mountain East Conference. Fairmont State currently is ranked third Atlantic Region according to the Oracle/ITA Division II Men's Rankings

The men's team comes into the weekend winners of five straight matches and have swept each of their last three opponents. Edinboro is currently ranked fourth as a team in the Atlantic Region according to the Oracle/ITA Division II Men's Rankings, making the showdown set for Saturday afternoon an important one.

Thibault Dorval and Gustavo Martins are tied for the team lead in wins each with seven. Ruben Acuna and Takahiro Inoue each have worked their way back over .500 over the last few weeks at the top two singles spots. Kaio Sacchi and Kai Chin Chen are also looking to extend their win streaks this weekend in singles action.
