Fighting Scots tennis programs prepare for regular season finale vs. Daemen

EDINBORO, Pa. - The Edinboro tennis teams will wrap up their 2021 regular seasons with a home, non-conference showdown with Daemen College on Friday, April 23. The matches are slated to begin at 3:00 p.m.

The men's program hold an 8-4 mark overall with a 5-1 record in the PSAC. Their consistent play this season has allowed them to qualify for the PSAC Tournament and they will face-off against Bloomsburg University on Tuesday, April 27 in the first round in a home match scheduled for 3:00 p.m. The team comes into Friday's showdown with the Wildcats of Daemen College winners of eight of their last nine matches as a team.|

The Fighting Scots singles lineup has been one of the most consistent in both the PSAC and the Atlantic Region on the 2021 campaign. At number one singles for most of the season has been Takahiro Inoue (Osaka, Japan/Yanagawa) who holds a 7-5 record. At the number two spot is sophomore Ruben Acuna (Palma De Mallorca, Spain/Aula Balear) who has won won eight of his last nine in singles action. 

Thibault Dorval (Belgium) has been another consistent player for the Fighting Scots at the number three singles spot and holds a 10-2 record to begin his college career. Teammate Gustavo Martins (Sao Carlos, Brazil) is unbeaten so far this season and currently holds an 11-0 mark in singles competition.

Kaio Sacchi (Sao Paulo, Brazil) comes into Friday's match with a 10-2 overall record in his second collegiate season. Rounding out the starting lineup is Kai Chin Chen (Taipei, Taiwan) who is 7-3 to begin his collegiate career for the Fighting Scots.

The women's team will conclude their season as a team today and are looking to pick up their fourth win of the season. In single's competition, talented first-year Kaede Tada (Kashiwa, Japan) has won nine straight singles matches and currently holds an 11-2 overall record. In doubles, she's formed a strong duo with sophomore Torye Calleja (Anthem, AZ, Boulder Creek) as they tandem has gone 4-4 in their last eight doubles matches.

As for Daemen's programs in 2021, the men hold a 1-6 record and will look to snap a six game skid. The women hold a 3-2 mark and will look to snap a skid of their own as they have suffered defeats in each of their last two matches.

The Fighting Scots on the women's side have won five of their last six matches over the Daemen Wildcats while the men have won six straight over Daemen dating back to 2013.
