Edinboro men's tennis heads to Erie for PSAC Championship match vs. Mercyhurst

EDINBORO, Pa. - The Edinboro men's tennis team heads to face the Mercyhurst Lakers for the PSAC Men's Tennis Championship on Friday, April 30 at noon. The title match will be held indoors at the Westwood Racquet Club due to expected poor weather in Friday afternoon's forecast.

In the Fighting Scots PSAC semifinal victory over Bloomsburg, the team was able to pick up five quick victories with two wins in doubles and three in singles action to win the match 4-0. In doubles, Takahiro Inoue (Osaka, Japan/Yanagawa) and Kai Chin Chen (Taipei, Taiwan) and Kaio Sacchi (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Santo Ivo) and Ruben Acuna (Palma De Mallorca, Spain/Aula Balear) were able to pick up victories in doubles with Gustavo Martins (Sao Carlos, Brazil), Thibault Dorval (Belgium), and Acuna winning their respective singles matches.

Mercyhurst was able to defeat Millersville by a 4-2 final score on Tuesday, April 27 to advance to play Edinboro. The Lakers got the better of the Fighting Scots in the season's prior meeting on April 17 by a 4-3 score. A huge key for Edinboro coming into the match is staying consistent and getting the victory in double's action much like they did against the Huskies of Bloomsburg.

The Lakers are led by Unai Amilleta Gonzalez who is 11-0 in 2021 and Milan Jankovic who has had a fine season with an 8-4 mark in singles play. Mercyhurst has won the last eight over Edinboro with most coming in close fashion. In the last 18 meetings, the teams are currently 9-9 against each other.
