EDINBORO, Pa – The Fighting Scots softball team heads to Mercyhurst Tuesday, April 6 for the second half of a four-game series against the Lakers.

In the previous two games of this season against Mercyhurst played on March 27, the Lakers were able to take care of Edinboro by a score of 16-7 in game one and 8-5 in game two. Despite the losses, the Fighting Scots showed some bright spots, especially on the offensive side.
Cheyenne Shughart and Lauren Gierlak were able to collect multi-hit games in game number one of the series against Mercyhurst. Jolene Teller also smacked a home-run and recorded two RBI's in that game. Maura Pasquale was able to add another hit last Saturday in the first game and scored two runs.
In game two, Edinboro collected eleven hits as a team with Pasquale and Teller each recording multi-hit games. Teller was able to add another home run in the second game, while Samantha Martz connected for a two RBI double in the second game.
First-year Maura Pasquale is now hitting .500 on the season through ten games. She has collected seventeen hits and thirteen runs so far. Graduate student Jolene Teller comes into the games Wednesday against her former team tied for the team lead in home runs and is also hitting .367 so far in 2021. Lauren Gierlak continues to deliver in the lead-off spot as she is hitting .364 and has collected 12 hits and scored 9 runs so far this season.
The Lakers come into the Wednesday games with an 11-7 record with an identical record in conference play. The Lakers are 5-3 at home to begin the 2021 season. Mercyhurst is led by Edinboro graduate Leanne Baker, an All-PSAC West performer for the Fighting Scots in 2006 and a key member of the 2007 club who advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
