Box Score (New/Sortable Format) 2 ERIE, PA – Redshirt freshman Mackenzie Quider (Sanborn, N.Y./Niagara Whitefield) returned to the lineup for the Scots and made her presence felt with a three-run homer in the fifth inning of game one of a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader. Edinboro went on to sweep the doubleheader against Mercyhurst University.
The first hit of the game occurred in the top of the second as freshman Morgan Spitler (Lucas, Ohio. /Lucas) singled to left field but got stranded.
The Lakers got to Redshirt freshman Macy Sral (Lilly, Pa./Penn Cambria) for their first hit in the same inning, but no runs scored as Sral answered a sacrifice bunt with a strikeout looking and pop out.
The Scots plated two in the fourth inning with Quider singling up the middle to open the frame. Redshirt freshman Cheyenne Shughart (Shermansdale, Pa./West Perry) then hit a two-run homer.
Sral worked out of a jam in the fourth as Hindman walked and Ally Dejidas was hit by a pitch. Mercyhurst then executed a successful sacrifice bunt before turning a momentous double play to stay in front by two runs.
The Fighting Scots scored six runs and batted around in the top of the fifth. Freshman Stephanie Krick (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) doubled to left center, staying on second as freshman Nya Adams (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) legged out an infield single. Graduate student Lauren Gierlak (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) bunted to advance the runners. Freshman Maura Pasquale (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) hit into a run-scoring fielder's choice. Then, Quider struck with a three-run home run over the left field fence. Shughart then singled to center forcing a pitching change and allowing head coach Dan Gierlak to substitute in freshman Kearson Wagner (Evans City, Pa./Seneca Valley). She swiped second, redshirt freshman Maya Kozup (Pittsburgh, Pa./Avonworth) walked, and Spitler reached on a throwing error that plated Wagner.
Freshman Jade Renner (Wind Ridge, Pa./West Greene) relieved Sral in the bottom of the fifth inning and limited the Hurst rally as they scored three runs in the inning.
Back-to-back-to-back singles by Pasquale, Quider and Shughart added one to the Boro lead.
Renner forced a pop fly and swinging strikeout in the bottom of the sixth. Mercyhurst scored on a single to right center, and the Lakers were within five runs.
Edinboro added an insurance run in the top of the seventh with an Adams double that scored Morgan Donnell.
A scoreless seventh salted game one away in favor of the Fighting Scots with a 10-4 final. Sral improved to 4-2 on the year pitching four and a third innings with a strikeout. Renner had a strikeout in two and two-thirds innings.

The Fighting Scots used a two run fifth inning to get ahead 5-4 on a Shughart single that scored freshman Morgan Donnell (Waterford, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf) and Gierlak.
Donnell was pinch running for Quider who singled to right field, advancing Gierlak and forcing a throw to third. Gierlak reached on a base hit and moved to second on a fielder's choice by Pasquale.
Edinboro got the scoring started in the first inning with Pasquale singling and advancing to second on a Quider groundout. Shughart followed with a double that scored Pasquale, and the Scots held the 1-0 edge.
Krick singled in the bottom of the second. Redshirt freshman Dylan Claycomb (Roaring Springs, Pa./Central) forced a double play in the frame.
In the third, Pasquale went yard for the first time in her collegiate career to cut the Boro deficit to 3-2. Quider then singled before scoring on a Kozup double to center. Bush struck out B Egleston to strand two on the basepaths.
The fourth inning saw freshman Lauren Bush (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) single up the middle followed by a steal of second.
Holding the 5-4 lead, Spitler walked to open the sixth inning. And Wagner pinch ran, scoring on a fielding error on an Adams batted ball to third. Edinboro assumed a 6-4 advantage.
Kozup made it a 7-4 final in the seventh with a solo home run to left, her second of the season.
Bush won her first game of the season, going five and a third innings, allowing just four hits and one earned run.
Claycomb closed the door for the Scots, who improved to 5-7 overall, matching their conference mark.

The Fighting Scots are scheduled to travel to Slippery Rock University Friday for a doubleheader with games set for 2:30 and 4:30.
