EDINBORO, Pa. - The NCAA season has come and gone but stand out Stefanie Parsons' season is not done yet. The Acton, Ontario native has qualified for the Canadian Olympic Trials in the 1500m.
"I am so excited to have qualified for the Canadian Olympic Trials and achieve this long-term goal that I've been working towards," said Parsons. "I am very grateful to have the opportunity to compete back home in Canada with some of the best runners in the country, especially since there have not been very many races in Canada this year due to Covid. I know that this is going to be a race that I will learn a lot from and gain experience for the future."
Parsons has already had a quite an impressive season this year in the 1500m, highlighted by her first outdoor All-American award by taking seventh at the DII NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Not only did she win the PSAC meet in the 1500m, but she also set the School, PSAC Meet and PSAC All-Time records this spring in the event.
The weekend after the NCAA meet Parsons ran in Nashville at the Music City Track Carnival, during that race she achieved a lifetime best in the 1500m by three seconds. Her time of 4:14.22 currently ranks twelfth in Canada but is the ninth-fastest time of athletes entered in the 1500m at the trials.
The 1500m is not the only event Parsons has seen success in this season, she was also the PSAC champion in the 5k. Earlier in the season she ran a school record in the 5k and qualified for the national meet in that event as well. She did not run the 800m at the PSAC but she did have the conference and Atlantic region top time.Â
Her efforts this season have not gone unnoticed. She was named the PSAC Athlete of the Week multiple times, she was also named the PSAC Meet Track MVP, PSAC Track Athlete of the Year and the Atlantic Region Track Athlete of the Year.
Parsons will race Sunday June 27 at 11 a.m. EST in Montreal. Livestream is available here: AthleticsCanada.TV - News - 6/25-27/21 - Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Track and Field Trials Live Webcast Info
