Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro women's indoor track and field team claimed held the lead after the first day of competition and never gave it back as they claimed the programs first PSAC Indoor Championship.
On Saturday, the distance medley relay team of Kimberly Goerrs,
Abby Piert,
Lauren Jacobs and
Kylie Anicic posted an NCAA provisional time of 12:03.57 to take first place and put 10 team points on the board.
In the pentathlon,
Jayna Galley turned in a third-place finish good with a final score of 3117 for six team points. Edinboro had seven qualifiers in the 5K and didn't disappoint putting four runners in the scoring positions. Anicic finished atop the podium with a time of 17:12.88. Goerrs also turned in an NCAA provisional time of 17:26.20 to grab third.
Anna Alberti was fifth with a time of 17:39.71 and
Kate Szep crossed the line in 18:04.80 good for sixth. Giving the Scots 39 points at the end of Day One.
The distance runners got the day off right on Sunday as well with Anicic standing atop the podium again in the one-mile run with a time of 4:58.38. Alberti turned in a time of 5:04.72 to finish third while Goerrs was fifth with a time of 5:05.99.
Jacobs claimed individual gold in the 800-meter with a time of 2:16.07. A trio of 3K runners put the Scots over the top with Anicic and Alberti going one-two with times of 9:59.46 and 10:05.61 respectively. Goerrs a 10:23.06 to finish fifth. Galley put the finishing touches on the meet with a fourth-place finish in the high jump clearing 1.59 meters.
The Scots topped second-place Slippery Rock by 20 points.
