Edinboro, Pa -- The Edinboro men's tennis team will cap off their regular season by hosting non-conference opponent John Carroll University on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. Edinboro comes into the match with a (11-5) overall record and is (5-0) in conference play.
Statistical Leaders
With sixteen matches completed and only one to go, the Fighting Scots will look to continue their dominance and carry it into the postseason.
Edinboro's play has clinched the top spot in the PSAC conference with a perfect (5-0) conference record. The Fighting Scots have also been ranked as the second best in the Atlantic Region, as it was announced by the NCAA last week.
Ruben Acuna leads the Scots in Singles play with a (15-1) record while winning his last six in a row. Acuna was named PSAC West Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week back in March and remains one of the top players in the Atlantic Region.
Acuna is followed by Thibault Dorval who was also recently selected as the PSAC Tennis Athlete of the Week. Dorval holds an (10-4) singles record on the season.
The dominance doesn't stop there, Bruno Sabio and Gustavo Martins are both (11-5) in Singles. Sabio currently owns the longest winning streak on the team with seven straight victories.
Sabio was named Rebich Investments Scot of the Week last Monday for his recent performance.
In doubles, the duo of Acuna and Kaio Sacchi are (11-1) on the season.
Dorval and Maksymilian Braziewicz have also been dominant with their (10-3) record together.
Last Time Out
In their previous match back on Apr. 16, Edinboro came away with a big win over PSAC rival Mercyhurst, 5-2. The win carried weight with the significance of clinching the top spot in the conference. Headed into the match the two teams both presented unbeaten conference records.
The Fighting Scots jumped out on top early after winning two of three doubles matches. Rocco Palombarini and Sabio defeated David Akinpetide and Milan Jankovic 6-3. In the third doubles match, Acuna and Kaio Sacchi got past Hristo Plasheski and Morris Haab 6-4, to ultimately clinch the doubles point for Edinboro.
In singles four of the six matches would be taken into a third set, as Edinboro would prevail. Sabio got past Akinpetide in a close one 6-7, 6-3, 6-3. The pattern continued with Acuna as he was victorious over Ben Davis 4-6, 6-1, 7-5.
Martins won his eleventh win of the year when he defeated Jankovic 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Dorval imroved to (10-4) in singles after he took care of Noha De Sousa Pereira 6-1, 6-3.
