Buckhannon, Wv. -- The Edinboro men's tennis team competed this weekend at the West Virginia Wesleyan Invitational. The invitational included both a singles and doubles tournament format with multiple brackets. As a team, the Fighting Scots finished the weekend with 15 wins overall.
Singles
In bracket 'A' of the men's singles tournament Edinboro's Ruben Acuna and Brunio Sabio were both present among the field and ready for action. Both Acuna and Brunio advanced into the semifinal round due to walkovers from their opponents. The semifinals round in bracket 'A' was cancelled due to weather.
Bracket 'B' featured Edinboro's Gustavo Martins as the lone Fighting Scot in the field. In round one Martins defeated Kan Watanabe 4-3, 4-2. Martin's weekend would end before the semifinals round due to a weather cancellation.
Bracket 'C' featured Edinboro's Thibault Dorval. Dorval took out Alberto Nordio 4-2, 4-2. The same weather cancellation ended Dorval's weekend after one round.
Bracket 'D' had Manav Sreekumar in the spotlight for Edinboro. Sreekumar's one round of play concluded with a win over Alex Stacy 4-0, 4-3. The semi round in bracket 'D' was also cancelled due to weather.
Bracket 'E' featured Finn Unger, Rocco Palombarini, and Arshjot Bhatti of Edinboro. All three Fighting Scots advanced to the semifinals and did not play any further due to the weather. Palombarini defeated Luis Lenwerder 4-0. Bhatti swept Roberto Ducoing 4-0, 4-0. Unger advanced to the semifinals with a walkover.
In Bracket 'G' Masayuki Matsuno earned a first-round win with a walkover, as weather discontinued play in the semifinals. Dragan Agic defeated Austin Noel 4-3, 3-4, 10-4.
Doubles
In bracket 'C' of the men's doubles tournament the duo Kaio Sacchi and Acuna remained unbeaten after two matches, as they won the bracket. In the first round they defeated Rassat and Weinborner 7-5. Their 7-5 win over Patrawala and Pinto allowed them to earn the bracket 'C' crown.
The duo of Dragan Agic and Matsuno also won their bracket after two match wins. The two defeated Fincham and Thomas 6-4. Then a win against Boone and Gandy earned them the title of bracket 'F'.
Edinboro will be back in action next weekend for the ITA tournament.
