Alamonte Springs, Fla. – The Edinboro men's tennis team had their season come to an end Tuesday after a 4-0 loss to third seeded UT Tyler in the opening round of the NCAA Championship.
In doubles action, Artiom Dorofeev and Malo Poulesqen opened with a 6-2 win over
Mathis Amsellem and
Stanislas Noel. The top doubles match was locked in a 5-5 tie between
Leon Grassnickel and
Rocco Palombarini of Edinboro and Carel Wessel and Daniil Felker of UT Tyler when Job Japelj and Trevor Short secured the doubles point for the Patriots with a 7-5 decision over
Gerardo Garrido Guzman and
Thomas Buchard.
In singles action, the Scots got a first set win from Amsellem 6-2 over Carel Wessel, but dropped the opening set in the other five singles matches. Martin Depodov made it 2-0 UT Tyler with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Buchard at number three.
Grassnickle rallied after falling 6-1 in the first to Felker to take the second 6-4 and force a third set. Poulesquen extended the Patriot lead to 3-0 defeating
Arsen Tabaldyev 6-3, 6-2. Jordi Garcia clinched the match for UT Tyler defeating Palombarini 6-2, 6-2 at number six.
The Scots finished the season 15-6 overall winning their fifth straight PSAC Championship and making their third appearance in four years at the NCAA Championship.
