Volleyball Falls at Gannon

ERIE, Pa. (Oct. 12, 2012) – Edinboro's offense was stifled by the Gannon defense and the Fighting Scots volleyball squad fell in straight sets Friday night by scores of 25-15, 25-16, and 25-22.
 
As a team, Edinboro (7-15, 5-5 PSAC West) hit .040 for the match, including a -.067 mark in the first set. Despite Gannon's defense, Marah Maycock banged seven kills, giving her 196 on the season putting her just one back of Tabitha Meeks for the team lead. 
 
Haley Marett led Edinboro's defensive effort, tallying 11 digs.  Maria Concheck had another good day at the net, notching four more blocks, giving her 64 on the year to lead the team.  
 
Gannon (17-4, 9-2 PSAC West) was led by Lauren Sazama, who finished with 12 kills and nine digs.  Sarah Glancy had eight kills and Taryn Graham had 11 digs for the Golden Knights. 
 
Edinboro returns to action tomorrow afternoon in the annual Dig for the Cure match against Mercyhurst at 3 p.m. in McComb Fieldhouse.  The team will wear special pink jerseys and will collect donations with proceeds going toward the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
 
Saturday, Oct. 13 will be Cancer Awareness Day at Edinboro University with activities slated throughout the day including a football game at noon against Indiana (Pa.), the volleyball match at 3 p.m., and a soccer match at 6:30 p.m., also against Indiana (Pa.).  Donations will be collected at each event throughout the day.
