Box Score (New/Sortable Format) EDINBORO, Pa. (Oct. 13, 2012) – The visiting Mercyhurst Lakers downed Edinboro's volleyball squad 3-0 Saturday by scores of 25-19, 25-11, 25-23 on Cancer Awareness Day at Edinboro University.
Edinboro was unable to get their offense going early, trailing 11-3 in the first set. They rallied to within four at 22-18, but it was not enough as the Lakers took set one 25-19. In set two, the Fighting Scots trailed 17-10 before Mercyhurst went on an 8-1 run to take the set 25-11. The Lakers raced out to an early 9-1 lead in set three but Edinboro battled back to tie the game at 19 before Mercyhurst put it away late, earning a 25-23 match-sealing victory.
Breanna Gardner and
Tabitha Meeks each had seven kills to lead the Fighting Scots.
Megan Branchick added six and
Maria Concheck finished with four.
Katie Felix had 15 assists and
Erin Schatzle finished with 11.
Haley Marett led the defensive effort with 15 digs.
Marah Maycock was right behind her with 14 digs.
Mercyhurst had a balanced attack offensively with seven players finishing with four or more kills. Sarah Vick led the team with nine and hit .429 (9K, 0E, 21TA) during the match while Becky Smith added eight and hit .667 (8K, 0E, 12TA). Libero Elyse Texido had 16 digs to lead the Lakers while Camille Alvarez finished with 12.
Edinboro's next match is at home Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. against Notre Dame (Oh.). Then it is five consecutive road games before coming home to face Gannon Nov. 3 at 3 p.m.
