EDINBORO, Pa. (Dec. 19, 2012) –  Edinboro erased a 23-point first half deficit thanks to a resounding second half comeback and four players scoring in double figures to stun West Chester, 76-68, at McComb Fieldhouse on Wednesday evening.

Darche' Jackson's 3-pointer gave Edinboro its first lead of the game with 3:39 left to play and came as part of a complete second half turnaround for the Fighting Scots (7-2, 4-1 PSAC). Jackson's bomb from long range was the exclamation point on a 17-2 run by Edinboro to end the game.

Samantha Blazetic led all scorers with 20 points and tied a career-high of 14 rebounds for the Scots. Kiara Brown filled the stat sheet with 14 points, four assists and three steals while Laurel Lindsay scored 12 of her 14 points during the second half rally and also chipped in with three blocks and two steals. Jackson registered 13 points, three assists and two steals.

While the game may have ended on an emphatic note for the Scots, it started with a whimper. West Chester (5-3, 2-3) launched the contest on a 13-2 run and grew its lead to 21 at 29-8 following a pair of free throws from Carly Strickland just 9:08 into the game. The Golden Rams continued their early roll, connecting on seven of their first eight shots from beyond the arc, jumping ahead by 23 points (42-19) on a jumper by Paige Elliott with 5:17 left in the opening period. Edinboro began to eat away at West Chester's early stand, however, by finishing the half on a 14-6 break to hit intermission down by 15, 48-33.

Where West Chester was hot from the field in the opening half, shooting nearly 59 percent (17-of-29), the Golden Rams went nearly as cold following halftime. Edinboro held the visitors to just 38 percent (23-60) over the final 20 minutes as its rally unfolded. The difference between halves was even more noticeable from long range – West Chester shot just 1-of-14 (7.1 percent) from the perimeter in the second half.

The Fighting Scots clawed their way back into the game immediately following the halftime break, making quick work of their deficit. Edinboro cut the West Chester edge to single digits less than four minutes in as Blazetic's layup made the score 52-44. The Golden Rams went ahead by 10 again on a jumper from Brittany Sicinski with 14:27 to play, but Edinboro unleashed a 15-5 run to tie game at 59-59 with 8:07 left on the clock. It was the game's first tie since Dallas Ely opened the scoring with a 3 in the first minute of the contest.

Following a free throw from Aignee Freeland to knot the game at 59-59, Ambreelinne Ortman was good on back-to-back shots at the line to give the Rams the lead once more. Ortman's free throws began a 7-0 sprint by the visitors to briefly establish control again at 66-59 with 6:08 showing on the clock.

The Scots again had an answer, however, as Lindsay swayed the momentum with a big turn of events. The redshirt sophomore hit one of two at the line and then on the defensive end blocked a shot attempt by Strickland. Lindsay then delivered a 3-pointer to cut the West Chester lead to 66-63. Jackson followed with steal and a layup to bring Edinboro to within one before connecting on a 3 of her own to put the Boro ahead for the first time.

Edinboro was able to put the game on ice over the final three minutes by making good on its free throw attempts. A layup from Blazetic put the Scots up 70-66 and then the senior center stretched the lead to six with a pair of shots at the line. Brown scored the game's final four points at the charity stripe during the last 90 seconds to seal the victory.

Ely led the way for West Chester with 15 points while  Elliott and  Sicinski each had 12.

Edinboro will take a long holiday break before returning to action for another crossover weekend at PSAC East rivals Shippensburg and Millersville on Jan. 4-5.
