Wheelchair Basketball Competes at Wisconsin-Whitewater Tournament

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Edinboro wheelchair basketball team traveled to Whitewater, WI to compete in the 2012 Wisconsin-Whitewater Tournament Nov. 16-17.  The Fighting Scots went 1-4 in the two day tournament, including a win over Southwest Minnesota State University.

The Fighting Scots got the tournament started with a 70-57 loss against the hosts, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.  D.J. Murray led Edinboro scorers with 18 total points.  Murray added seven assists and five rebounds for the Fighting Scots.  Freshman John Herndon added 11 points, four rebounds, and three assists.  Cyle Schriver was the other Fighting Scot in double figures, as he finished with 10 to go along with his team-high eight rebounds and four assists.

Next up for Edinboro was the University of Texas at Arlington.  Despite another strong effort from Murray, the Fighting Scots dropped an 84-37 decision to the Mavericks.  Murray led the team with 13 points, six rebounds, and four assists off the bench.  Jake Shafer added eight points and three rebounds for Edinboro.

Edinboro's first win came on the second day of action as they defeated Southwest Minnesota State 42-35.  Edinboro had a pair of solid performances registered by Schriver and Shafer.  Schriver tallied 12 points and 11 rebounds while Shafer notched six points and 11 rebounds. 

Following the win, Edinboro took on the University of Missouri.  Murray and Herndon led the way with seven points apiece, but Edinboro was unable to secure the victory, falling 63-37.  Shafer pulled down eight boards and added six points for the Fighting Scots. 

Edinboro finished the tournament with a rematch against Southwest Minnesota State.  Murray poured in 15 points and Shafer added 13, but the Fighting Scots were unable to complete the sweep of the Mustangs as they fell 54-44.  Herndon also scored in double figures for Edinboro, finishing with 10.    

Edinboro's next match is Dec. 8-9 when the host the Boro Shootout.
