EDINBORO, Pa. (Jan. 26, 2013) – The Edinboro women's basketball team (14-3, 11-2 PSAC) outscored Slippery Rock (4-13, 3-10), 26-13 over the final 10:18 to pull away for a 72-59 victory on Saturday afternoon at McComb Fieldhouse.

Seniors Samantha Blazetic and Kiara Brown each tallied 20 points to key the Fighting Scots.

Edinboro scored its seventh straight win over Slippery Rock, but it wasn't easy. The two squads shared 10 ties and exchanged the lead on 11 occasions as The Rock proved to be a pesky foe. The Fighting Scots took a narrow, 28-27 lead into halftime and found themselves down by four (36-32) following an Alexas Brown jumper with 16:26 to play.

Baskets from Blazetic and Bobbi Baker tied the game, but Erinne Cunningham's layup put Slippery Rock back ahead, 38-36. On the other end, Laurel Lindsay gave the Scots the lead back with a 3-pointer, but the advantage was short-lived as Slippery Rock would re-capture the lead (43-41) with 12:57 remaining.

A 3-pointer from Cunningham put The Rock up, 46-43, but it would be the final lead for the visitors. Following a Rock foul, Brown connected on a pair of free throws to pull Edinboro within one. A defensive stop and another foul later and Lindsay made good on one of two shots at the line to tie the game at 46-46.

The Fighting Scots grabbed the game's final lead change with 10:18 remaining on a trey from Brown, who scored five straight points to give Edinboro its first bit of breathing room. A 12-3 run by the Scots over a three and a half minute span broke the game open, sending the Boro to its fifth straight win overall. 
Kiara Brown 1,000 points

Edinboro outshot Slippery Rock by a margin of 39.4 percent (26-of-66) to 37.1 percent (23-62) and won the battle of the boards, 45-41. The Fighting Scots forced 17 turnovers while committing 11.

Blazetic had seven rebounds and five blocks to go along with her 20 points while Brown added six rebounds and five assists. Darche' Jackson chipped in with nine points and Lindsay had eight points, six rebounds and five assists. Aignee Freeland finished with eight points, nine boards and two blocks.

Cunningham paced The Rock with 16 points while Simone Aladenoye had 13 and Alexas Brown added 12.

 Edinboro returns to action on Wednesday evening at local rival Mercyhurst for a 5:30 p.m. tip.

GAME NOTES: Blazetic moved into a tie for 15th all-time in Edinboro scoring with 1,218 points, moving up from 18th. Brown advanced to 24th with 1,046 points … Blazetic also moved into ninth all-time in rebounding (707) … Brown was honored prior to the game for reaching 1,000 points with Edinboro last Saturday at Lock Haven … Edinboro shot 17-25 from the line, led by Brown's 11-13 … Edinboro owns the past seven wins in the series with Slippery Rock, but The Rock still leads the all-time series, 51-39.
