Balanced Scoring Attack Powers No. 21 Edinboro to Win at Slippery Rock

Four players score in double figures to key Boro victory

Darche' Jackson scored 16 points and added 11 assists and 7 rebounds at Slippery Rock.
Box Score (New/Sortable Format) SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (Feb. 16, 2013) – Four Edinboro players scored in double figures to push the No. 21 Fighting Scots to a 70-60 victory over Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon at Morrow Field House.

Samantha Blazetic and Darche' Jackson led the attack with double-double efforts. Blazetic poured in a game-high 20 points and hauled in 10 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season and 20th for her career at Edinboro. Jackson, meanwhile, narrowly missed a triple-double as the junior scored 16 points, handed out 11 assists and pulled down seven rebounds. Kiara Brown, the PSAC's leading scorer, finished with 15 points and Aignee Freeland added 12 points and eight boards.

The win moves the Fighting Scots to 18-5 overall on the season and they continue to hold down the second spot in the PSAC West with a 15-4 mark in conference play. Slippery Rock falls to 4-19, 3-16.

Saturday's contest was a back-and-forth affair as the squads shared 10 ties and exchanged the lead on 12 occasions. The Rock shot over 44 percent from the floor during the first half and went into halftime with a 34-32 lead, shades of the first meeting between the teams when Edinboro led by just one point at the break in its win on Jan. 26.

With the game tied 41-41 and 14:41 to play, the Boro embarked on a 17-5 run to seize control. Brown drained a pair of shots at the line to begin an 8-0 break for a 49-41 edge before Danielle Garroutte put home a layup to momentarily stem the tide. Edinboro then ran off nine of the game's next 12 points and took its first double digit lead of the day following a 3-pointer from Brown with 8:50 remaining.

Edinboro continued to slowly pull away from that point, eventually stretching its lead to 16 on a jumper from Jackson to effectively put the game on ice with just over two minutes left.

The Rock went cold during the second half, shooting just 28.1 percent (9-of-32) after their strong start. Edinboro held the edge in shooting for the game, 40.8 percent (29-71) to 36.4 percent (24-66).

The Fighting Scots recorded a strong day on the offensive glass, pulling down 20 offensive rebounds and outrebounded the hosts by a 48-42 margin. On the opposite end, the Scots tied a season-high with 28 defensive boards. Edinboro did much of its damage inside, recording 46 points in the paint.

D'Asia Chambers led Slippery Rock with 12 points and Erinne Cunningham added 11 points.

Edinboro completes its three-game road trip with a key PSAC West game at Indiana (Pa.) on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. IUP remained one game behind the Fighting Scots for second place and a bye through the first round of the PSAC Tournament with a win at Mercyhurst on Saturday.
