No. 22 Edinboro Drives Past Clarion for 20th Victory, 69-60

Edinboro dominated Clarion on the offensive glass on Saturday.
Box Score (New/Sortable Format) EDINBORO, Pa. (Feb. 23, 2013) – Kiara Brown poured in a game-high 23 points and No. 22 Edinboro avenged a loss at Clarion earlier this month with a 69-60 victory of their own on Saturday afternoon at McComb Fieldhouse.

In doing so, the Fighting Scots reached the 20-win plateau for the third straight season and now stand 20-5 overall and 17-4 in the PSAC. Clarion dropped to 13-14, 9-12.

Saturday's contest remained close throughout with the score separated by single digits nearly the entire afternoon. The Boro never trailed, though, as Laurel Lindsay drained a 3-pointer to begin the scoring and Clarion would be left looking up at the Scots for the remainder of the contest.

Edinboro started the game on a 14-4 run and led by 13 following a 3-pointer from Brown to give the hosts a 24-11 advantage with just over four minutes left in the first half. Clarion was able to sneak closer before the half, however, cutting its deficit to seven at half (31-24) behind the leadership of Hannah Heeter. Heeter recorded a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds at the break.

Clarion pulled to within one as it began the second half on an 11-5 run to begin the second half. A pair of free throws from Heeter made the score 36-35 just four minutes into the second period, but a foul against Clarion allowed Darche' Jackson to sink to shots at the line. The Golden Eagles closed to within one again on two free throws from Lauren Savulchak.

Another trey from Lindsay initiated a 12-2 Boro break to stretch the lead to double digits as the Fighting Scots were able to pull away and cease Clarion's thoughts of a second straight upset.

Samantha Blazetic recorded 17 points and Lindsay tallied eight points and five assists. Edinboro dished out 22 team assists on the day, led by Jackson's seven.

Edinboro dominated the offensive glass, pulling down 17 offensive rebounds to Clarion's five. Edinboro was able to take 72 shot attempts as opposed to Clarion which got away just 43 shots. The Boro shot 34.7 percent (25-of-72) and Clarion finished at 41.9 percent (18-43).

Heeter had an impressive performance of 16 points and 18 rebounds for Clarion. Savulchak netted 13 points.

Edinboro used a new starting lineup as Lauren Hippo earned her first career start. Fellow freshman Bobbi Baker broke her season-best total for rebounds in the first half alone and finished with nine to lead Edinboro on the glass.

The Fighting Scots conclude their regular season schedule by hosting Mercyhurst on Wednesday evening at 5:30 p.m. Edinboro will celebrate Senior Night honoring senior team members Blazetic, Brown and Kerry Connolly.
