EDINBORO, Pa. (Feb. 27, 2013) – Three Edinboro players found double-figure score totals and the 18th-ranked Fighting Scots (21-5, 18-4 PSAC) never left any room for doubt in their dominating 76-38 victory over Mercyhurst (7-19, 7-15 PSAC) on Wednesday evening at McComb Fieldhouse.

Fittingly as the Scots celebrated Senior Night, a pair of standout seniors led all scorers – Samantha Blazetic poured in a game-high 18 points and Kiara Brown added 16 points. Junior Darche' Jackson joined the scoring party with 14 points as well as six steals. In all, 11 Edinboro players registered points during the contest.

It was all Boro from the very beginning. A slow start saw Edinboro take a 6-2 lead as three minutes, 30 seconds elapsed off the game clock. The Scots would turn it on, however, stretching a 17-4 break away over the first eight minutes.

Mercyhurst closed to within 12 (24-12) on a jumper from Kristi Ewanick, but the Boro launched into a 12-0 surge to spring their advantage to 24. Before the opening period was over, the hosts grew the lead to 29 as Jackson added a basket with four seconds left in the half to make the score 43-14 at the break on the heels of shooting 50 percent from the field (17-of-34). Brown had 12 points in 14 first half minutes and Blazetic netted 11.

Edinboro would never look back in the second half, leading by as much as 40 points. For the game, the Scots finished by shooting at a 44.1 percent clip (30-68) while the Lakers shot 28.9 percent (13-45). Aignee Freeland led the way on the boards with seven and Edinboro out-rebounded Mercyhurst by a 42-30 margin. Edinboro turned 28 Mercyhurst turnovers into 28 points of offense.

Ewanick and Kaylee Foster each tallied seven points for Mercyhurst.

The Fighting Scots are now idle until Tuesday, March 5 when they will host a PSAC quarterfinal game. Edinboro will play the winner of the Indiana (Pa.)-Mercyhurst game which will take place at IUP on Saturday.

GAME NOTES: Edinboro honored its trio of seniors before the start of the game – Blazetic, Brown and Kerry Connolly. Connolly was in the starting lineup for the fourth time this season and finished with three points and two assists … this year's senior class has helped key the most successful four-year period in program history. Since the start of the 2009-10 season, the Fighting Scots are 93-23, far and away the best-ever four-year record in the history of Edinboro women's basketball. In the past three years, Edinboro has compiled a 77-11 record for an .875 winning percentage – the third-best in all of Division II during that span … the latest Atlantic Region standings were released prior to Wednesday's game. Edinboro continues to rank second behind Gannon … Blazetic moved into fifth place in all-time Edinboro rebounding (775) with four boards and Brown moved up two places to 16th in all-time scoring with Edinboro (1,226 points).
