Women's Lacrosse Team Extends Record Streak with 19-3 Win at Lees-McRae

BANNER ELK, NC – The Edinboro women's lacrosse team extended its school record for consecutive wins with a 19-3 triumph at Lees-McRae on Saturday afternoon.  Head coach Kevin Cooke's squad has now won four games in a row to improve to 4-1.  The Bobcats fell to 3-3 with the loss.

Edinboro scored early and often, jumping out to a 15-3 lead at the half as five different players scored two-or-more goals in the opening half.  Alexandria DeReamer got the scoring started with her first of three goals at 27:13.  Shannon Rohrich, Jenny Wirth and Hannah Mong added goals over the next five minutes as the Fighting Scots jumped out to a 5-0 lead. 

That lead grew to 6-0 on another Rohrich goal at 14:38 before Lees-McRae finally broke the ice 11 seconds later.  The lead grew to 11-3 with just over two minutes to play, and then Edinboro closed the half with a rush, scoring four more goals, including three in the final 42 seconds.

Edinboro dominated the first thirty minutes of action, not only leading 15-3, but outshooting the Bobcats 29-8 and forcing 14 turnovers.

The Fighting Scots would hold the Bobcats without a goal in the second half, and ended up holding a 38-14 advantage in shots.  In addition, Edinboro forced 19 turnovers while committing 14.

Rohrich led eight players with goals, finishing with five goals and an assist.  DeReamer had three goals and two assists, while Katie Magee had three goals and an assist.  Rebecca Martin contributed two goals and two assists, with Rebecca
Zajac and Mong finishing with two goals and an assist.  Wirth had a goal and an assist, while Anna Purdy had a goal and Stephanie Niell an assist.  Freshman Autumn held finished with nine saves in goal.

Edinboro returns north now and will open up PSAC action on Wednesday, March 27 at Gannon.
