Lacrosse Prepares for Gannon, PSAC Opener

EDINBORO, PA – At 4-1, Edinboro's women's lacrosse team is off to its best start in the five-year history of the program.  The Fighting Scots return from a spring trip south last week that saw them go 4-0 and average 16.5 goals per game.  There is little time for celebration however, as Edinboro is gearing up to open conference play at rival Gannon on Wednesday, March 27.  The contest is slated for a 5 p.m. start time at Gannon University Field.

Selected to finish tenth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference preseason poll, Edinboro currently sits 4-1 overall and fifth in the PSAC standings, just a half-game out of first place, which belongs to 4-0 Millersville.  Gannon is off to a 3-2 start in 2013 and was picked to finish fifth in the PSAC preseason poll.

Shannon Rohrich leads Edinboro with 15 goals and an assist on the season.   Alexandria DeReamer has tallied nine goals and three assists.  Katie Magee has eight goals and two assists while Rebecca Zajac and Shelby Will have seven goals each.

The Fighting Scots have been strong defensively, allowing just 6.75 goals per game.  Defender Lindsey Evans was a second team All-PSAC choice in 2012.  In goal, freshman Autumn Held is 4-1 with 32 saves, and a .542 save percentage.

For the Golden Knights, Jess Fugate has 19 goals and 13 assists to lead the team, which averages 14.6 goals per game.  Christie Valentine has 14 goals, and Kimberly Neagle has 12 and eight assists.

In goal, Gannon relies on Margaret Maslyn, who is 3-2 with 35 saves, a 14.44 goals against average and a .330 save percentage.

The Fighting Scots begin their home schedule Saturday, March 30 at Sox Harrison Stadium against Indiana (Pa.).  That match will begin at 1 p.m.
