(April 13, 2013) – The Edinboro women's lacrosse team rallied from a 4-0 deficit to pick up an 11-6 win at Kutztown in a PSAC match on Saturday afternoon. The victory boosted Edinboro's record to 6-6 overall, the first time in the five-year history of the program that the Fighting Scots have been at .500 this late in the season, along with 2-5 in the PSAC. Kutztown fell to 2-9 overall and 1-6 in league play.
Katie Magee led the Fighting Scots with five goals on six shots.
Rebecca Zajac had two goals and three assists and Alexandria DeReamer finished with two goals and an assist.
Shannon Rohrich added a goal and an assist and
Anna Purdy contributed a goal.
Freshman Autum Held once again stood out in goal with six saves while limiting the Golden Bears to just one goal in the second half, and scoreless over the final 22 minutes.
Edinboro held a wide 36-16 advantage in shots, including 16-5 in the second half. The Fighting Scots kept Kutztown goalkeeper JoAnn McLaughlin busy all afternoon, as she finished with 18 saves.
After jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first 13 minutes Kutztown held a 5-3 lead at the half. Goals by Purdy and Magee knotted the score at 5-5, but Kutztown regained the lead at 6-5 on a Gina Carmina goal with 22:52 to play.
That would be the last goal the Golden Bears would score, however. Two minutes later Zajac scored off a pass from
Jenny Wirth to tie it at 6-apiece. Magee followed with back-to-back goals off feeds from Zajac for an 8-6 lead with 12:56 to play.
The Fighting Scots would add three more goals over the next three minutes to end the game with six straight goals. DeReamer had a hand in all three, assisting on Zajac's second goal of the game and then scoring the final two goals.
Edinboro returns to action on Tuesday, April 16 hosting Wheeling Jesuit at 4 p.m. The Fighting Scots will be seeking to tie their school record of seven wins set last year.
