EDINBORO, PA – Down 10-4 with just 2:21 remaining, Edinboro scored four goals in 1:13 to pull within two, but were unable to put the final two into the net as Bloomsburg escaped with a 10-8 victory on a windy Friday afternoon in Edinboro. The Fighting Scots drop to .500 on the season at 7-7, while Bloomsburg improves to 6-7.
Following a Julie Falk goal to make the score 10-4, the Fighting Scots began their comeback with an Alexandria DeReamer goal off a free position shot with 2:21 remaining to make the score 10-5. Feeling comfortable with the lead and the amount of time remaining, the Huskies decided to pull their starting goalie Sara Bates, who allowed just five goals in almost over 57:00 of game time, in favor of Kate Stricker.
Edinboro would make them pay as
Rebecca Zajac nabbed the draw control following DeReamer's goal and raced into the offensive zone. A foul on Carly Ball gave
Jenny Wirth a free position shot and she fired it past Stricker for her 12
th goal of the season, making the score 10-6 Bloom.
Zajac grabbed another draw control and once again pushed the ball into the Bloomsburg zone. She found
Anna Purdy, who put the ball in the back of the net just ten seconds after Wirth's goal, pulling Edinboro to within three.
With 1:17 remaining,
Shannon Rohrich took the draw control and passed it to Purdy who fired another shot into the net pulling the Fighting Scots within two at 10-8.
Falk took the ensuing draw control for the Huskies and they kept the ball away from the resurgent Fighting Scots for the final 1:05 of the game, squashing the frantic Edinboro comeback.
Boro scored the first goal on a
Katie Magee shot to take an early 1-0 lead. Bloomsburg would answer back 11 seconds later with a Maggie Canavan goal. Sam Mazzie followed up with her first goal of the game for Bloomsburg, making the score 2-1 Bloom.
The Huskies took their lead to 5-1 before Edinboro got back into the game on
Shannon Rohrich's 38
th goal of the season. Mazzie added another goal, but DeReamer answered right back, making the score 6-3 at the half.
The teams traded goals to open the second half before Bloom could run off four unanswered goals to go up 10-4, prompting the Edinboro comeback.
DeReamer and Purdy finished with two goals apiece to pace the Fighting Scots. Zajac, Rohrich, Wirth, and Magee all finished with one goal apiece. DeReamer and
Rebecca Martin had one assist each.
Mazzie led Bloomsburg with four goals, while Falk added three.
Edinboro returns to action April 20 as they take on the Warriors of East Stroudsburg on Senior Day. Six seniors will be honored at the festivities. The game is set to begin at 2 pm, with the senior recognition taking place just before.
