EDINBORO, PA – East Stroudsburg scored with 1:20 remaining to break a 8-8 tie and hand Edinboro its eighth loss of the season on a cold, windy Senior Day at Sox Harrison Stadium. Edinboro honored six seniors prior to the game, and looked to get that elusive eighth win of the season that would set the mark for most wins in a season by an Edinboro lacrosse team.
The Fighting Scots tied the game at eight when
Rebecca Zajac zipped a free-position shot past East Stroudsburg goalie Amanda Simms with 8:20 remaining. Edinboro had a chance to make it a 9-8, but Zajac's shot with 4:45 remaining went just right of the goal and the Warriors picked it up and played keep-away from Edinboro until Nicole Miller was able to slip a shot past
Autumn Held to make it 9-8 in favor of East Stroudsburg.
The Warriors would hold on the final 1:20 as both teams battled wildly to keep control of the ball.
Samantha Weinert grabbed control on the draw and was fouled by
Stephannie Niell. Edinboro finally got East Stroudsburg to cough up the ball with 24 seconds remaining, but had to turn it back over to the Warriors on an offensive foul call with five seconds to play.
Edinboro got on the board first with a
Katie Magee goal on a nice pass from Zajac 7:03 into the game. The Warriors had the answer, however and tied it up a minute later on a goal by Lauren Nunes.
Shannon Rohrich put Boro back on top with her 39
th goal of the season at the 16:58 mark. Once again,
East Stroudsburg had the answer as Miller scored her first goal of the day, tying it at two.
Rohrich added another goal and
Jenny Wirth added two for Edinboro in the first half, heading to the locker room tied at five.
East Stroudsburg struck first in the second half thanks to Lauren Nunes' 27
th goal of the season. Less than one minute later,
Rebecca Martin tied it up at six apiece on a beautiful tip-in goal off a pass from
Anna Purdy. Purdy controlled the ball to the left of the goal and faked out the goalkeeper before passing to Martin who gently tapped the ball into the wide-open net.
The Warriors went back on top, 7-6 thanks to a Sarah Ginn free-position goal with 19:33 remaining. They extended their lead to 8-6 on a Brandi Smith goal with 11:23 to play.
Not phased, Edinboro fought back as Purdy netted her first goal of the day before Zajac tied it with 8:20 remaining.
Rohrich and Wirth paced the offense with two goals each. Zajac, Purdy, Magee, and Martin each finished with one goal and one assist.
Edinboro honored

Stephannie Niell,
