SLIPPERY ROCK, PA –
Shannon Rohrich scored five times and Edinboro came back from 14-4 deficit early in the second half, but it was not enough as the Fighting Scots dropped a 17-13 decision to Slippery Rock in PSAC women's lacrosse action Tuesday evening at Slippery Rock. Edinboro drops to 7-9 on the season after the loss, while Slippery Rock moves to 6-8.
Down 14-4 with 24:03 to play, Edinboro outscored Slippery Rock 9-3 to finish the game, led by Rohrich, who scored four of her five goals during the stretch.
Katie Magee got the comeback started with a goal at the 21:41 mark off an assist from
Rebecca Martin.
Rohrich followed with a goal of her own to make it 14-6 in favor of The Rock. Slippery Rock got one back, but
Stephannie Niell had the answer, and drew the Fighting Scots within eight with 15:57 remaining.
Rohrich fired another goal into the net off a pass from Magee, making the score 15-8. The Rock scored again, but
Jenny Wirth followed with her 17
th goal of the season from just inside the circle.
Rohrich netted two more goals and Magee added two of her own to pull Edinboro within three at 16-13 with 3:12 remaining.
Slippery Rock would hold the Fighting Scots off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game and added an insurance goal with 1:09 remaining to seal the victory.
Rebecca Zajac had a strong day, scoring three times on three shots. Magee scored three goals, all during the comeback. Niell and Wirth each finished with one.
Edinboro continues to search for the elusive eighth win of the season, which would give this squad the most wins in school history at eight. The competition doesn't get any easier however, as the Scots entertain the seventh-ranked team in the country, West Chester in the final game of the season on Saturday, April 27 at Sox Harrison Stadium. That game will get under way at 1:00 p.m.
