Edinboro Remains Undefeated in the PSAC, Sweeps PSAC Crossover Weekend

Box Score (New/Sortable Format) 1 | Box Score (New/Sortable Format) 2 ERIE, Pa – The Edinboro women's volleyball continued their strong start to PSAC play, defeating the Kutztown Golden Bears 3-2 (25-19, 21-25, 18-25, 25-19, 15-7) and the East Stroudsburg Warriors 3-0 (28-26, 25-22, 25-23). The Fighting Scots have already matched their win total from last season and improve to 11-5 overall and 4-0 in the PSAC. Kutztown falls to 8-6 overall and suffers their first PSAC loss, falling to 2-1 while East Stroudsburg now stands at 5-11 overall and 1-4 in the PSAC.

After getting up 2-0 early in the second game of the Kutztown match, Edinboro gave up eight of the following 11 points and fell behind 8-5. The Fighting Scots were able to keep the second game close, but never able to retake the lead and lost 25-21.

In the third game, the Fighting Scots closed the gap at one point to 15-14, but the Golden Bears went on a 7-1 run that they wouldn't look back from him, ultimately winning 25-18.

The Fighting Scots started the fourth game on fire, establishing a quick 4-0 lead. Kutztown battled back though and took a 10-9 lead. The Fighting Scots would play well to end the game though and win 25-19.

Edinboro opened the fifth and final game with a commanding 9-1 lead. They would finish with the victory, winning the decisive fifth game 15-7. Kutztown finished with only a .148 attack percentage for the entire match, including a fourth set in which they only shot .086 percent. While Edinboro struggled with errors in the middle games, they only had three combined errors in the first and fifth games.

Against East Stroudsburg, the Fighting Scots were tested throughout but held on for narrow victories in each game. The Warriors also managed to keep things close with Edinboro and few runs were accounted for.

Haley Marett finished the second match with 28 digs, which is above the 6.42 per set rate she came into the weekend with that ranked third in the NCAA for the Division II level. Megan Branchick led the team with 34 kills on the day.

Edinboro comes to McComb Fieldhouse next weekend for their first home matches of the season. On Friday, October 4 they face Gannon at 7:00 p.m. and then on Saturday, October 5 Mercyhurst comes in at 6:00 p.m. for Homecoming. The Fighting Scots are currently on a four-game winning streak and have won 14 of their last 19 matches dating back to last year.
