Fighting Scots Return to Divisional Play Hosting Rival Slippery Rock

STORYLINE
Riding a four-game winning streak, the Edinboro women's basketball team returns to PSAC divi­sional play Saturday afternoon when it hosts Slippery Rock. The Fighting Scots are coming off a memorable game in which Valerie Majewski posted the fourth triple-double in Edinboro history, leading the Scots to a 94-74 victory against Shippensburg. Slippery Rock comes into the game following a 69-61 victory over Kutztown and is looking to curb and eight game losing streak to the Scots. Edinboro is undefeated against the PSAC West (3-0) while the Rock is winless (0-4). Coming into the season, Edinboro was picked to finish second in the division receiving one first-place vote while Slippery Rock was picked to finish last.

#30 Valerie Majewski (G, 5-7, Jr.) – Coming off the biggest game of her career, Valerie Majewski recorded the fourth triple-double in Fighting Scots history in the Scots 94-74 win versus Shippensburg. She finished with 25 points, 12 assists, and 11 rebounds. She is now eighth in the PSAC in scoring and third in assists.

#3 Darche' Jackson (G, 5-8, Sr.) – Speaking of triple-doubles, Darche' Jackson nearly had one the last time these two teams played. She finished with 16 points, 11 assists, and seven rebounds. Jackson is coming off a season-high 15 points versus Shippensburg.

#12 Jazmyne Frost (F, 6-0, Sr.) – One of only four players to rank in the top ten in the PSAC in points and rebounds, Jazmyne Frost has been a consistent force for The Rock averaging 15.7 ppg and 14.9 rpg. Over the last three games, Frost is shooting 36.7 percent from the floor, her worst three-game stretch this season.

#32 D'Asia Chambers (G, 5-11, Jr.) – D'Asia Chambers has led Slippery Rock as of late. She is second on the team with 14.9 ppg and first with 9.1 rpg, which is also good for fifth in the PSAC. The 5'11" forward is averaging 20 points over the last three games.

SCOUTING SLIPPERY ROCK
Slippery Rock lost each of its first five games of the season before picking up its first victory against Lourdes, 68-57. Following that, The Rock nearly upset No. 2 Gannon in early December, losing 76-73 at home. Since that game, The Rock is 2-5 but two of those losses have come in double overtime and another in overtime. Slippery Rock is 17th in the PSAC with a -5.86 turnover margin. They are allowing 76.4 ppg, 15th in the conference. The Rock ranks fifth in field goal percentage defense, as opposing teams shoot just 39.0 percent from the floor. Niagara trans­fer Jazmyne Frost the team-leader in scoring at 15.7 ppg, good for ninth in the conference. The senior is also tenth in rebounding with 8.4 rpg. She is one of only four players in the conference to be in the top ten in both statistics. The Rock has been led recently by St. Bonaventure transfer D'Asia Chambers. The junior forward is 16th in the PSAC with 14.9 ppg and fifth in rebounding, pulling down 9.1 rpg. Chambers has excelled over the last eight games, averaging 18.8 ppg. She has recorded two double-doubles during that span and has scored 30 points twice, one of those games being against Gannon. In The Rock's last outing, Chambers had 25 points and a season-high 15 rebounds. Chambers and Frost are the best rebounding duo statistically in the conference, combining for 17.5 rpg. Over the last three games, Frost is shooting 36.7 percent from the floor, her worst three-game stretch this season. Erica Aiello paces the team with 3.9 apg, good for eighth in the conference. The sophomore guard is also scoring 9.8 ppg, fourth on the team.

In the most-played series in Edinboro women's basketball history, the Fighting Scots have held the edge lately. Edinboro overcame a 34-32 halftime deficit in the second game last year to push its winning streak in the series to eight games. The Fighting Scots have won by double-digits in all eight games during their winning streak in the series. The Scots had four different players score in double-digits and had two double-doubles. Samantha Blazetic led the way with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Darche' Jackson flirted with a triple-double, finishing with 16 points, 11 assists, and seven rebounds. Kiara Brown and Aignee' Freeland were the other two Scots to score in dou­ble-digits, finishing with 15 and 12 points, respectively. With the game tied at 41 with 14:25 to play, the Fighting Scots went on an 8-0 run and would not lose the lead the rest of the way.

Junior guard Valerie Majewski etched her name in the Edinboro record books on Wednesday night, recording the fourth triple-double in Edinboro women's basketball history as she led the Fighting Scots to a 94-74 victory against Shippensburg. Majewski finished with 25 points, 12 assists, and 11 rebounds, all career-highs. It was the first triple-double since the 2005-06 season, when current Edinboro assistant coach Callie Iorfido had 29 points, 14 assists, and 10 rebounds while hosting Shippensburg. The victory was the Fighting Scots fourth straight and head coach Stan Swank's 475th career victory. In addition to Majewski, Lauren Hippo scored a career-high 20 points while Darche' Jackson had a season-high 15 points. The Raiders went on a 10-0 run to end the first half to bring the game to a 44-40 score at halftime. The Scots controlled the second half and used a 8-0 run with just under 10 minutes to go to take a 78-63 lead with 7:44 to play. Edinboro would hold a lead of at least 12 points the rest of the way. Majewski had 18 points, six assists, and five rebounds in the final frame to help lead the Scots to the 20-point victory.
 
Slippery Rock 69, Kutztown 61
Slippery Rock recorded its first home win of the season, behind a double-double from D'Asia Chambers. The junior forward finished with 25 points and 15 rebounds, both game-highs. The Rock trailed 32-29 at halftime, but Chambers scored 19 points in the final 20 minutes to bring them back. They used a 12-2 run to start the half to take over a lead they would not lose control of. It was Chambers fifth double-double of the season. Jazmyne Frost added 12 points and eight rebounds.
